I've talked to Cops in Aus before and a lot of them have said they have to pull out of chases if it starts to get dangerous for innocent people. The guy fleeing in the vehicle should not be charged in my opinion unless the death was directly caused by him. Chasing felons is completely at the discretion of the officer and they should be well aware of the risks to themselves or others when engaging in a chase.

Pisses me off whenever I read something about this. All you have to do is watch one of those world's wildest police chases shows to realize cops need to back the fuck off and stop these retarded high speed pursuits. People wind up getting seriously hurt and killed over petty fucking bullshit. A stolen car is NOT worth somebodies life. Cops get a fucking hard-on for this shit though, and put innocent people are risk while the cops have tunnel vision and focus on nothing but catching the bad guy. It needs to stop. Unless it's a dangerous guy who has committed a crime against another human (rape/assault/murder), just BACK the fuck off.

I'm not sure about other states but in Florida, if you commit a felony offense and someone dies because of it, you will be criminally charged with 2nd degree felony murder.
