I want to upgrade my computer

You guys know good sources for learning how to upgrade your computer?
My comp right now has
100Gigs of storage space
1 gig RAM
Radeon Xpress 1250

I wanna make it so it can play the new games coming out these days. What is a good graphics card?

Need more info.

What's the make/model?
What kind of processor do you have?
Do you have any available slots on your motherboard?

According to the interweebs, a Radeon 1250 is a 512meg video card. Is that correct?

512 megs is enough to play most games these days. you could upgrade if you wanted, but you'd be paying over $100 dollars.

seriously though, you need some RAM. 1 gb is pathetic these days.

You're graphics card is alright, you should add another gig of Ram and depends on what kind of processor you have. Why didn't you post your processor?

Fo'real.

I'd suggest a RAM upgrade AT LEAST. The more, the better!

A video card upgrade wouldn't hurt either, but it wouldn't do wonders without some extra ram.

And, again, it all depends on what kind of processor you've got.

what's your CPU and motherboard, it's very important to know for an upgrade prognosis.

Wait a moment!
Radeon xpress 1250 is a notebook graphics card, so I assume you're behind a notebook and these are not upgradeable. You'll need to buy a new one.

With this card you can't even play games properly that came out 4 years ago.

NVidia has the best graphics cards now (and has for aquite some time). They are just coming out with their new generation this month. The 9600GT is the lower priced of their new cards and the 9800 cards are the best.

Go with the 8800GT or the 9600GT card for the most value for your dollar and more than enough power to run today's games. The ATI cards can't keep up.

You will likely also need a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM. Get at leadt 2 gigs of ram. Choose among the Core 2 Duo processors (they come cheap now) and a MB that will connect it all.

Look on newegg for customer reviews.

Putting it together isn't hard at all. It is pretty clear where everything goes and you basically just follow the directions and plug it all in now.
