I just found out

I just found out that the average correction officer gets 2 days a year of defense training. I coulndt believe what this guy was telling me.

I have just accepted a job as a gaurd and was asking a church member about training. Turns out he is a defense tactics trainer. He said I would get 2 days training. I said how often do I renew he said annually. I said that is not enough. Then he actually said oh yeah you learn it and go and practice on your wife or your friends.

I was floored knowing that the extent of training was 2 days and no other practice for a year. Honestly; no bragging I bet I have more hours of training than most of the INSTRUCTORS. I have an orange belt and had 3 stripes about to test for a blue belt. Then I had to quit and be a real daddy.

Am I off base or does 2 days training seem a ridiculously small amount of time?

I don't know about Missouri, but here in California Corrections Officers learn Defense Training at the Academy . Then most likely re-certify every year after taking a "refresher" course.

It is similar to the Military. They don't just hand you a weapon and say, "There you go, good luck." You are given a months weapons training and then have to re-qualify every six months to a year depending on your unit.

At least I HOPE that's what they do for defense training.

They were calling it pancration at the time because the term mma hadnt become popular yet. Yes I know it wasnt really pancration but that was what the flyers said. We learned freestyle karate, judo, and ju-jutsu(japenesse). I have an orange belt but cant remember what art it is in. It has been 8yrs and at the time I didnt care just wanted to fight ,You know what I mean?

Would you like me to list what I learned so you have some idea what level I am talking about?

meh, it would be impossible to train most officers to beat some big old iron pumping headed for the nfl until he lost his scholorship for armed robbery mandingo anyways. just use your night stick and you'll do fine.

I was told I would get 6 weeks training total. Weapons ,defense tactics, paper work all of it 6 weeks.
