Icon14 I can't believe this. (moderate serious read)

The AC went out in my apartment like a week ago, i called the landlord who lives in boston to complain, instead of fixing it she says that we can move in to one of the vacant apartments on the building next to mine i said that's bullshit. I spoke to the maintenance guy who lives in the property earlier today, and someone came by today to look at the apartments because they are gonna buy them and it looks like they are gonna change owner like in a month. now my question is should i pay rent this month or not?, i go to work and come home and stay there until bedtime then me and my wife go sleep at my in laws house for the night, been doing this for like 5 days now. i have fans and ceiling fans to keep me from sweating during the day but i can't sleep with that heat at night. i live in texas and the heat is no joke, anyone had this type of problem before???

You need to check your lease, then contact your department of housing. At least that's what I would do. Maybe one of the lawyers can help you out.

No, but there is a certain standard of living that has to be provided for you. Your landlord might have to fix the ac, or maybe you don't have to pay rent. I have no idea. You need to read your lease. Until you make them, it doesn't sound like they are going to fix your ac. If you want a quick fix, I think it would be moving.

I'm just talking out of my ass, but renters have more rights than they realize.

On that note, I'm turning on the AC and going to bed. Stay cool.

Definitely pay your rent, if you don't pay it they have grounds to kick you out. To start with check your lease to see if air conditioning is part of the tenancy agreement. It seems to me that you have grounds for a dispute and a reimbursement of at least part of this month's rent, but I'm not familiar with the laws regarding that in Texas (on the US in general for that matter). However, a quick search yielded this - texas tenant advisor - see if that can help you with your course of action.
