You cannot make a lving doing security in SoCal. Right now most of the security companies do not want someone who speaks english. They want a warm body that dosen't complain about being paid minimum wage to do graveyard shifts in the Ghetto. I applied at two companies and was told I was overqualified.

There are two ways to make security work for you.

1. You get a job working at a bar, club, or contract security for concerts WHILE YOU GO TO SCHOOL. You will make decent money but not from your paycheck though. You can get tips at a bar, sneak people in back entrances for money, find wallets on the ground, shake down drug dealers selling on you premises, scalp tickets you get for free etc...

2. You get a job doing contract security at the worst site possible. This is because your "Field Supervisor" would rather not check up on you, at say abondon houses in the ghetto. So he has you check in by phone once an hour. This was my favorite site as an undergrad because you could leave after they checked up on you and they wouldn't notice. Just make sure you get site where you don't get "Relieved". I had this job for a year I would go the site and check in at 8pm(I was supposed to to work until 4am). My boss got off work at midnight. Sometimes he would come by sometimes he wouldn't. At about 9 or 9:30 I would just leave. If he came down and said he couldn't find me I would stall him while I drove back down to the site(site was about 4 city blocks). I eventually took a another job at a club. Just to see if they could ever catch me I quit showing up to the site all together but kept checking by phone as if I was there. I got paid for the next three months!

The important part is to GO TO SCHOOL. I'm working on my masters degree right now while working the front door at two local clubs. I'm also doing an internship. I pay all my bills no problem and have some extra money left over.

Also whenever I have met someone who is trying to make an actual career out of security they are total rejects. No one likes them they just placate them, because they have there little report book that can get regular employees in trouble. Do not try to make security your career unless you enlist in the military or something.

OH YA I ALMOST FORGOT...GO TO SCHOOL!!!

Seems boring and stupid, but I don't really like security. Especially loss prevention.

loss prevention leads to amazingly funny stories but its the most boring of all jobs. that is, until you catch somebody

I thought I was a pretty big guy so after high school I went to apply to be a bouncer at a local strip club and I noticed that all the other bouncers completely DWARFED me. I was 6'1" and about 215. Those guys were easily 6'5" and nearly 300.

Bouncers in Ottawa are nowhere near big. Other then the fat guys, the largest one I have seen had to be around 10lbs heavier than you.

By the way, a 6'1" 215lbs Korean is weird, I have never met a Korean over 5'9

I did security 2 summers ago in an area where people would break into cars and everything. Night shift. I use to fall asleep because I would be so bored and when people would break into cars, I was not allowed to do anything except call the police. Worst summer I ever had until I ended up quitting.

Easiest job I've ever had. I'm working right now.

Its fun to catch people doing shit they shouldn't be. I've worked here for almost 5 years and very few things have ever happened here. I have caught people sneaking around the building or putting trash in our dumpsters.

I had a friend who worked security and he hated it. Basically he said he was soooo bored all of the time. Just sat by himself for hours on end.
