Cept one. You said the hours are pretty bad. So im guessing it wouldnt be ideal for someone who is training? Are there good chances of catching morning shifts so i can train 5-8 pm ?
all depends on the site and the company. if you are looking to make it just a job and not a career than by all means you certainly can. however if you are looking to make it a career you will be accused of being "hard to please" which is a bullshit term that is used for "people with lives" LOL

If you are looking to just make a job out of it, than goto a O&R company (observe and report) these are the guys who don't want you to get involved no matter what. you are there to only see stuff happen and report it to the client. these companies will hire pretty much everyone. I worked for one when I first started and we literally had a retarded man working for us.

Just tell them your availability and they will give you hours to accommodate it. However be warned that you will likely need 12 hours available 6 days a week. You can always refuse extra work but to guarantee you get brought on for your hours do this.

If you train at 5 tell them you need off at 4. They will likely give you a really shitty set of hours where you work 4 days a week going 4:00-16:00 or 24:00-08:00. Your best bet really if you can handle it is overnights. Get your training done when you wake up (if your a morning kind of guy) than goto work and relax. EVERY O&R site is shit so you will likely just sit there for your entire shift. Most of them are construction sites so bring a PSP or a DS or do like me and bring some books.

I agree with alot of what you say, except for the career aspect. If you mean as staying as a guard than I do agree but to make a career out of security can make you millions if you know what you are doing. If you cant start an observe and report company you can make some damn fine money as you don't need to insure your guards worth a shit. This cuts down on your costs, and you likely will only pay them minimum wage while charging the client $30 an hour per guard.

The company i started with was one of Canada's 50 fastest growing companies and made over 32 million in profit the previous year.

While this still takes alot of hard work, to say that you need not apply unless you have no skill, education or drive for any success is a wee bit stretching it. Again though, if you meant as staying as simply a guard for the next 30 years of ones life, I couldn't agree more.

Nope. I had to take baton classes because I wanted to carry one. I want to geta pepper spray class, too.

Only outside units are allowed to carry handguns, like the ones riding the bike and the cars.

At least you are protected by the law if anything happens, I've heard you can get away with some things and cops will believe your side of the story 9 times out of 10

id recommend working as a waiter instead. more money, more interesting (though it is added stresS).

I worked for a security company when I was 18, 12 years ago and it was a mistake for me. They placed me at an A&P warehouse, in one of those little guard houses. During the week I would work 7AM - 5PM and all we did was check the trailers of incoming and outgoing trucks, and doing "tours" inside the warehouse. A tour is basically walking around with checkpoints and seeing that everything is ok.

On the weekends it got worse because my hours were 11PM - 7AM, and I was the ONLY one there, so I would just sit there in the middle of the night alone doing nothing with noone anywhere around me. It got brutal to the point where I started bringing a radio, a little tv and a playstation to the guardhouse with me...lol What made it worse is that I worked with some weird ass dudes. One dude was indian, and was really corny but thought he was cool and always had chewing tobacco in his mouth and spitting it constantly. Another dude was straight out of Nigeria I think and didn't wear deordorant so he would stink the little guardhouse up. Another guy was a thug wannabe...it was brutal.

Here's how I stopped working there. I got a surprise inspection from the company on one of the weekends at about 2AM. I was asleep, so the guy in the car must have been honking for a while until I finally woke up. I had the radio inside, but not the tv or playstation. I wasn't in uniform either. Anyway the guy starts yelling at me like he's my dad, so I told him to fuck off and I quit. Poor guy was stranded there after I left because he couldn't leave the post.

You still doing it btw?
Most times you don't pick shit, haha, it's up to the people in the main office where you initially sign up. However, if you come off as intelligent and a halfway decent person with a desire to work they'll often place you at the best sites. Even then, they'll always try to place you on Grave shift because no one wants to work it so it's the most in demand. But impress the people in the office and they will sometimes try to work with you to get you on the shift of your choice.

Without exaggeration, security work attracts extremely lazy and some of the least intelligent people you will likely ever encounter in the workforce. You will meet some VERY intelligent people as well but they are in the minority. So like I said, if you're halfway decent you'll stand out and it will be easy to get promoted.

Oh yeah, and ditto on the weirdo's. Fucking WEIRDO's man, haha. I once had to train a guard who was a middle-aged balding Asian dude. As we sat at my desk and I went over the duties he sat there scratching his head hard enough that he was digging into his bald scalp and patches of skin were sloughing off, falling onto my desk. I sat there looking him like, no you are not actually doing this, but kept on to the point where his scalp was bleeding. When he finally noticed me looking at him like "wtf!" he softly muttered, "Oh, sorry". Then he scooped all the dead skin on my desk into a little pile and blew it into the air. Worse, some of the sloughed skin fell into a crack on the desk so he used his long nails to scoop it out then flicked it away. Jesus christ man, hahah. Fucking weird and gross. We got rid of him quick. I have so many stories of weirdo's I worked with it's crazy.

Anyway, if you're unsure which sites pay well or offer the type of work you want, ask around. Once you find out ask the dude who places the guards to put you at the site you want. That's what I did the second time I worked security and got in at the best site.

Don't work security anymore. The first time I did it for about a year. Second time for about 2 years.
