How does PPO work? I've used HMO all my life, and most people I know use HMO. Let's say you have a skin problem. Do you just go directly to the dermatologist? Or do you still need a primary doctor to refer you?

So if you need to see like a dermotologist, you just find whoe'vers in your network, and just make an appointment?

With PPO, do u have to tell them who u're primary doctor is? so they know who to report their data if they find anything?

If you have a PPO you just go see the specialist. No need for a primary doctors referral. You just let them know who your primary care physician is to send the results to follow up if needed. Usually thought the specialist will do the following up if the findings are related to his specialty.
