I need some advice; I am a Manager at a Production plant.
I Manage 11 employees and 2 shifts I am looking to hire 2 more employees on second shift. So I got a few resumes in and I noticed one of the resume had clues in it that the female applicant was young

The Resume said she graduated highschool in 2005. Her resume was alright nothing to special but she had experience in other production/manufacturing fields.

Ok so here is where it gets weird. I have been working at my job for almost 4 years I started just as a production worker and have been promoted to department manager. But I started working around the same time as my roommate. I keep getting promoted and he is still just an operator so we still hang out and are still friends out side of work but at work im his boss… he actually moved into my house 6 months ago and we are room mates but we work opposite schedules. He befriended the new guy who became 2nd shift lead about a year ago and now I will hang out with both of them outside of work.

Ok so here is my dilemma I got the resume and noticed she was young so I usually search for their name on myspace and or face book to see if I can get an insight on what kind of person they are. I know this is weird but I got the idea from an article about jobs searching for young professionals going into the business world and to beware of possible employers searching for you on social websites such as myspace and facebook.

So I found her… I know it’s her because she has a unique name. Her profile was not set to private so I snooped around a bit.I found the typical 21 year old pics of her at house parties pics of her tattoos and all that kind of stuff… she has tons of pics.. but nothing incriminating. But what I’m having a hard time with is that she is a pretty hot girl. I know my friend/coworkers are going to be distracted since on second shift there are only 4 people working and 2 of them are my friends. One of my friends is my roommates and the other is the 2nd shift lead with a very possessive gf. (which since he started dating her I haven’t hung out with him)
So I have a feeling if choose to hire this girl my dumb ass friend will hit on her and try to hook up with her and my other friend will probably get all kinds of shit from his super possessive girlfriend.

I have an interview with her in a few hours and I know I cant discriminate because of gender and age… but I feel if I choose not to hire her because she is a hot chick I would discriminate.

What would you guys do in this position?

So I waited for her 30 mins past her interview scheduled time and she never showed… I than called the hiring agency that contacted us with her information and they said they will try to reach her…they later contacted me saying she found another job.
So I guess I wont be faced with the difficult decision of hiring an attractive girl.

Ok first.... if your friends don't know how to act around an attractive woman in the workplace then they really need to grow up.

now my ot answer would be to make sure when she "interviews" she cleans up afterwards as there is nothing worse then have a woman leaving your office with evidence on her lip. I hope this helps.

You can't speculate on what might happen.

If she is more qualified, you hire her. If not, you don't hire her.

The situation sounds really complex when you lay everything out. Your brain is on overdrive, I'm just trying to get you back into first gear.

You're the boss, do whatever you want. If you want to hire her and take turns running trains on her with your friends then do it. If you don't want to hire her cause she's hot then do it.

Point being, grab your balls and use them.

My friends/CoWorker is 24 years old and i do agree with you that he does need to grow up.

probably why even tho we started at the same time im his boss and he still is just a production worker.

This is one reason why employers shouldn't go looking around on the web for personal information on prospective employees. It's not necessarily an invasion of privacy, but it most certainly is incredibly discourteous and in really really bad taste.
