Hooligans is drama, good film though.

I agree with Supersize Me.

It was a BBC Documentary series as well, from the late 90s, I was glued to my screen every week

Hoop Dreams, as I can remember, was good. Haven't seen it in many years though.

Yet he staged certain events filmed at other times, and spliced them in with real events to make it look like things happened the way he showed it. That is why I'd argue that it's not a documentary.

So I guess when I said that I could "argue" that it wasn't that went right over your head.

Yes, I'm aware that it is listed in most movie guides as a documentary.

I'm also aware that he staged scenes, spliced different videos together to make them look like 1, lied about dates, times, and facts and committed many acts of falsehood, deception, conciously misleading and outright lying.

If you want to call that documentary filmmaking that is your opinion.

Mine is different. Apologies.

BTW, some documentaries I would recommentd:

Don't Look Back
7 Up
Stevie
The World At War
Ken Burns Civil War
Dogtown and Z-Boys
One Day in September
Let it Be

and probably a bunch more I'll think of

Martin Scorcese's Blues series was good from what I saw of it, as was Ken Burns' Jazz.

The Yes Men
March of the Penguins
Roger and Me
The Elegant Universe

I unfortunately haven't seen much in the way of older documentaries... oh well.

"Be Here to Love Me: A Film About Townes Van Zandt"
His life was far more entertaining than any other movie I saw last year. Check out "Shaking Hands With the Devil..." too, it's damn depressing but worth the watch.
