Got Told i need Jesus cuz i watch and train in MMA

I was at work today and i was having MMA small talk with one of our customers about the UFC,Pride,Fedor,Couture,etc.... when some random lady that was there told us that she cant belive we suppourt such "attrocities" that people should be nice and not fight each other for a "stupid belt with fake gold". Now i looked at this lady and noticed she was with her son, or kid that could of been her son, now i dont judge people but this was the type of kid who prob doesnt play any type of sports or participate in any type of demanding physical activity (I could be wrong). This lady went on about how i need to go to her church's youth group to find god and jesus to keep me from doing such "attrocities" i kindly responded with "well i'm not really a religous person, plus i have submission wrestling class on sun morning" and she gave me the nastyest look. Now this leaves me wondering have any of ya'll sherdogers ever been frowned upon or had somebody tell you that you are doing wrong by either participating or suppourting MMA? if so how did ya'll deal with it? i just hope i'm not the only one.

My ex girlfriend's family was the same way. Looked down on me because I watched it and trained. They were also super religious...not a whole lot you can do about it. It did play a big part as to why she's an ex, though.

What an idiot. She thinks that MMA is an atrocity? Has she ever opened up that Bible she is thumping? Some people are just fucking idiots.

Good when your family supports you, even if they don't like it. I love that my family has my back. My mom wouldn't watch me wrestle in high school, but she's chomping at the bit for my first fight to come around.

Generally speaking, when someone tells you that you "need Jesus" it's because they're just the type of person that likes to tell people they need Jesus.

But hey, I'd probably be trying to sell people on it too if I had the notion that I knew what God was and that all I had to do was believe it and everything would be okay.

Don't take what religious people have to say too seriously. Just be thankful you were not raised in a horrible environment like her son.

What you should have said is "gee lady, I may choke somebody out once in awhile, but I´ve never committed mass infanticide like your beloved Mr. G". Or words to that effect.

I´ve never really been told that I should NOT train, but people always ask me what a bookish type like myself is doing in a place they automatically assume is filled with musclebound hardcases, and many just assume that we are agressive people. Which is IMO as far from the truth as one can get.
