so if i have understood this correctly, it is a new technology not a new business.

So why would google not have the technology first with its current position of power?

Who do you think would implement this system? (company?)

I guess he means that companies like Netscape, AOL, MS and Google do not stay on top forever, it's a technological evolution process.

Perhaps not anytime soon but it's nearly impossible for a business to remain "top dog" for a long period of time

I'm sure people thought AOL would be on top forever too. They were a powerhouse in the mid 90s. Now you rarely hear anyone speak of them.

All companies get superseded, generally by their own inability to adapt. See Microsoft, IBM, Sun, AOL

they make something like 98% of their money through their search engine, yet they run TONS of other programs and sites, such as google earth etc.

Problem is google has been labelled a search engine and if you ask anyone what google is that is what they will tell you.

I think that could be googles biggest weakness, and trying to break into a new medium on the internet may be tougher due to that percieved view from the consumer.

Think of it like a typecast for an actor
