LOL, its so true man. Girls suck at gift giving. I'm always getting fucking teddy bears and picture frames and crap they love. Its funny cuz they always ask me what I want and I say, "Nothing ,but if you feel determined to get me something, how about such and such book." I wish they would just get me the damn book. 1 year? Thats easy wait till your hit the 4 or 5 mark thats when you start running out of gift ideas. That being said here is a few ideas that may help

i pod
tickets somewhere (concert, themepark)
gift cert at a day spa
magazine subscriptions
If you are gonna go the jewelry or handbag route and aren't sure whats good get a friend who is a girl to help you

Also just pay attention to something she could really use, one year I got my g/f a really good set of speakers for her computer because she listened to music on it all the time and her speakers sucked. If you pay attention to something she could really use it makes the gift better than just getting a generic gift.
