Hang strong buddy, thanks for sharing. Be thankful that you can spend time with her while she is still with you in what may be her last days. As my grandmother died, my dad was away on business and couldn't get home in time to say his goodbyes. Please keep us updated and best wishes to your family.

When I was an EMT, we always had to take people to hospice with their families following or riding with us or whatever. Always hard to see something like that, sorry man.

yes...they were very nice. since they deal with situations like this on a daily basis they really know how to handle the patients friends and family.

my condolences but your mom spirits being high is something you can never forget. in a time when the end is close she still has sunshine to give you.

take care

I have to ask, is it still very hard to deal with...even though she is older and has lived a full life? I only ask because within the past year and a half I almost lost both of my parents, mom to a heart attack, and dad to a nervous system shut-down of sorts (very long and weird story)...in any case, I am 22 and they are still fairly young (mid and late 40's), and it was probably the most difficult thing I've ever had to deal with. I would imagine it still hurts you now, but I guess what I'm asking is whether or not you think it hurts just as much now as it would have 20-30 years ago, or if you are more equipped/ready to deal with it now?
ya know...it is. I think it's because she isn't ready to go. If she was accepting of this and said "well I've beaten the odds to live this long" or something like that then it would be better I think. But because she is still hoping to get better and doesn't want to die, or has a fear of death, it kills me. She doesn't talk about anything she wishes she would have done, she just isn't ready. I don't know.

thanks everyone. we are having another decent day. the lungs are very wet however and the mottling is worse. But as many of you have suggested, I'm really treasuring this time with her. It's a gift not everyone gets.

Death is inevitable. There is nothing more you can do but accept it and do your best to take it in stride, You really have nothing to be sad about, your mother seemed to have lived a very long life and raised a great loving son.

I hope she pulls of the miracle and gets better. Either way just be sure to keep letting her know how much you love her.
