yeah sounds like you probably tore your Lateral Collateral ligament which i believe is the one easiest to repair.
You still may need yor knee to be scoped.

Hard to speculate from your online description (it hurts when you bend your lower leg past parallel with the floor - as in hyperextension?!?), but it sounds like you will be getting a better idea of what is causing the pain and inflammation after the MRI. Could be an LCL injury (push medially just below the knee, pull laterally at the ankle to test ligament instability), could be some cartilage (any locking, grinding?), could be arthritis, a cruciate ligament, a strain, a bruise - who knows. Just hang tight, smile for the scanner, and get whatever treatment and rehab you need to heal properly.

Yeah, hopefully the MRI will take care of it.
I was hoping maybe some knee injury vets would have advice about how my descriptions of the pain would be able to improve the patient-doctor relationship in getting to the bottom of it. After going it sounds like the MRI is magic bullet. Luckily I'm a very healthy 21 year old who got this training jits rather than some old obese person with chronic arthritis. I put off the doctor for 6+ months thinking it would heal itself.

knee injuries rarely deal with the bone and therefore x-rays are just a way to suck money out of you/your insurance company. MRI's are how you know, so def stick with that.

Yeah; the doctor was good and straight up about it. It was 4pm when I was in his office and he was like... well it is probably not gonna show anything to do an X-ray but we'll do it anyways, but won't have time to get to the MRI today.
Luckily I've got a low copay while hanging on for deal like to my father's group plan for a few years.

Correction my good man, the side ligaments are collateral ligaments ex. lateral or fibular collateral ligament (LCL FCL). The ligaments in the middle are cruciate. Anterior Cruciate Ligament or ACL.

I work in xray and you are pretty much right. Although if it is a car wreck and your shit is swollen and bruised it is a good idea. Sports related probably not.
You would be surprised by how many xrays are done to either
1 generate revenue
2 cover their ass ( hospitals/ clinics)
3 doctor just wants to make family/ patient happy
I know when I injured my knee the insurance company required it before they
would pay for the MRI exam.
