it's a shithole in the middle of nowhere.

i think it was a bigger deal many years ago, but nowadays i just pity anyone that lives there. the only time i ever pass through there is for a giant festival every summer that occurs on the other side of the island.
i found this article on the place, but it really seems to overexaggerate gander's importance nowadays. i forgot though, it did play some importance right after 9/11 when a lot of planes were re-routed to there and the locals volunteered to house and feed the passengers.

(neat, at one point the airport was the largest in the world, and it is an emergency landing area for the space shuttle. you learn something new every day.)
