Adventure Trekking

I have been trekking for years, I have trekked in Costa Rica (Chirripo), here in Washington State (Mt. Rainier, St. Helens, North Cascades, Olympic Mtn. Range) but I would love to go on a trekking adventure in Nepal.

Has anyone here ever been to Nepal or trekked through this beautiful country?

What are your trekking experiences?

I did the Everest Base Camp Trek. Two of the days were difficult, the rest were not that bad. The length of the trek can wear on you though. Also, be weary of altitude sickness. It hit me after the 4th day and it affected me during the rest of the trek. I had a really bad headache and lost my appetite. At one point I did not eat anything solid for 3 days, which affected my energy level for the trek. I suggest you bring Diamox. Other than that I had a good time. The Nepalese people are friendly.

Another good trek to consider is the trek up to Machu Picchu in Peru. It's only a short 3-1/2 day trek and you get to see amazing Inca ruins. This trek is a walk in the park compared to Everest Base Camp.

I was trekking in Nepal couple months ago. Did the Annapurna circuit and it was extremely beautitul. It was last opportunity to do it alone as now you need to hire porter/guide in order to get TRC (Trekking Registration Certificate).

Has anyone trekked John Muir trail in Nevada? I am considering of doing it.

I did the base camp trek in 2003. Excellent trip. Well worth the experience. Check with Last Frontiers out of Kathmandu. http://www.lastfrontierstrekking.com Ask for Thubten Yeshi as a guide. He grew up in the Everest region, studied as a monk, great English, superb guide. Probably a good time to go because the govt. just recently reached a peace agreement with the Maoists rebels ending several years of violence.

Just did Machu Picchu in August. Try SAS Travel out of Lima, reputable and helpful.

Have also done Kilimanjaro (Africa) and a number of treks in the Alps. All are great places. Consider adding on a safari if you do Kilimanjaro.

I've done some trekking in the indian himalayas (HP). Really beautiful scenery and almost completely free of tourists--the trans himalaya is probably the most amazing place that I have ever seen.
