Is a Utopian World Possible?
I'd like your thoughts. Sometimes I think of how one could make the perfect world. George Orwell and other have made compelling arguments that a utopian society is not possible, and that conflict and strife essentially define what it is to be human. Further, the societies that give us the most security and stability are generally the one where free thought and emotion (which tend to the the sources of conflict) are stifled.
I am particularly interested in what we could do now (or in the very near future) to achieve such a utopia. Is therea new form of government that could be established that would allow free thought and engender peace and lack of hostility? Some new technology that can allow us to interact more and therefore bring us closer together? Even if something were not to bring us to totaly perfection in society is there something feasbile that could bring us closer (I personally that a large scale decrease in population would definitely move the world towards some peace).
I would like to hear any thoughts, no matter how bizarre or (potentially) unethical. For example, one idea I was kicking around was the idea of genetically engineering and cloning a massive group of laborers to free the rest of the world up to think and do the things we enjoy doing. Obviously this poses some major ethical problems if you are to consider the cloned laborers humans.
Discuss.

Small note: free thought is only a source of conflict when there exists limited thought/dogmas/indoctrination for it to oppose.
Other than that, I'd say the majority of conflicts dont involve free thought on either side; it's usually one dogmatic system versus another.

Hell no. Define "utopia." Really, try and define "utopia." By then you should know that it's impossible.

Yes. With the repression and control of all human emotions and instincts through monsterous state control.
So really, no.
But a very good world is possible.

Technically it's possible. Just not in our current state...
Humans need evolution time... That time IS coming soon, but we won't get smarter first... we're going to dumb down abit. (which will allow humans to reanalyze things)

Utopia: A world in which everything and everyone works in perfect harmony.
Perhaps it is impossible...but certainly one must agree that there are varying qualities of a society. If not than all systems of governance and community would be on equal footing. I think most would disagree with this idea.
So perhaps if you feel that utopias are impossible to attain--what could move us toward the ideal? How would we make a better world?
But I'm looking for practical things to be done--come on, lets hear em.

It would require that the world have one religion and one government. That is the starting point. After that, I don't know where to go with it.
