XBOX hardware question

I just bought an xbox and a tv, and was wondering if the xbox is already in HD or what is the deal. When I watch crappy regular cable on my tv, it obviously isn't in HD. But when I play NHL 08 it looks like it's in HD. Is this just skewed perception? Do I need the HDMI cables? I'm not very keen on technology so I'm not sure how it all works. Thanks fellas.

1) Is your tv hd?
2) There's a switch on one of the 360 cords where you can switch to HD or STANDARD
3) You don't NEED and HDMI cable to have HD on your 360. Component, VGA, and HDMI will all work.

You need to switch the settings on your XBOX console too. Start it and go to the dashboard to do so.

1-yes
2-yea I turned it on HD
3-ok, so is it in HD now? It looks like it.

So is the bottom line that I don't need the other cables?

Does your tv have an info button on it? You can check the resolution being outputted from that.

For instance, If I press the info button on my tv it'll say something like 1280x720p, 1368x768, or 1920x1080i

HDMI is digital and is audio and video in 1 cable. Alot of people see no difference between HDMI and Component, and then there are people that prefer one or the other. I personally use VGA and think it looks better than Component.

Get with the times. XBOX fixed the red ring of death problem, all the consoles that have been released within the past year are fine.
