First Adam Carolla Top Gear Q&A
In his first interview about the show since NBC’s announcement, Carolla sat down with PopularMechanics.com for a exclusive on what’s in store for Top Gear 2.0. Here’s the details:
• The NBC adaptation will follow the BBC format: guest segment, stunt, test drive and, yes, the Stig (casting for that crucial role is still pending).
• The premiere episode will feature a race from Las Vegas to San Francisco, ending in a “mammoth stunt.” (NBC isn’t insisting on copycat stunts or episodes, a la Season One of The Office.)
• Carolla is pushing for an on-air drive of the just-unveiled BMW M1 Homage concept as soon as it’s available, as well as the Aston Martin DBS (though that would be a reprisal of a Clarkson drive).
• Clarkson and Carolla recently met face-to-face, but Carolla promises to focus more on improv than the heavily-prepared Clarkson.
• Officials from Top Gear in England, who are producing the show, along with “everyone involved,” have assured Carolla that he will be able to speak his mind on any car “without fear of reprisal” from advertisers, which he fully plans to do.

If they wanted to, couldnt they just test Euro cars as well? The interview says that they are testing BMW and Austin Marin, neither are from the US.

Europe has cars that never make it to the US, I guess that is the whole thing that appeals to me about the British version, I see cars on that show that I never do here.
This show just has flop written all over it, I'd be surprised if it lasted.

i love how braindead american television people's tried and true formula is just take a successful british show, then remake the whole thing with an american host.
who knows, it could be successful, but it will prolly stink. first off, carolla isn't that well known, second, one doesn't think of him as a car guy like one did with mcqueen or like a jay leno- he's just some dude named after a compact riceburner; third, i guarantee it will have some junk format that loses all the original's charm.

Yeah just like the movies, the US has run out of media ideas. Thuogh on the point of Corolla, in the interview linked in the OP he comes across as just as much of a car guy as Leno. I dont know if that is true though. Here's a quote:
"Carolla calls himself “nerdy” when it comes to cars, taking issue with the Transformers movie when Megan Fox’s character makes a mistaken reference to a high-rise manifold in this scene."
