I agree and so did the critics. The first 15 minutes even to maybe halway through the movie is awesome with Cruise just running away and not trying to be the tough guy like in every movie. The second half is like a completely different film and didn't fit in at all with the original feel.

Couldn't agree more. I watched it once and now, every time in comes on, I watch up until the son decides to join the military guys fighting. After that it's all downhill.

War of the Worlds for sure stands out as a shitty ending, although throughout the whole thing i was /facepalming as it was all pretty stupid

I actually liked the ending for There will be blood, usually I am happy when the endings are not the conventional hollywood endings, probably why I liked the ending of Layer Cake when the rest of the movie wasn't all that good.

The ending of War of the Worlds has to be taken into account of when it was written. Evolution wasn't as accepted as it is now and that was Wells' way of supporting it. Although really that's not how it would work.

They didn't die in the end. After the credits there is a radio message that is Rob saying Help Us.

are you serious? as daniel craig was walking off into the sunset with that girl i thought to myself the plot was amazing and now theyre ruin it with this cliched ending? then the kid popped him and i thought to myself 'perfect'.

Yeah, but the ending really doesn't add anything to the story. It's just a shock ending put in for shock value; a gimmick.
