Th end of "Seven" almost ruins the entire movie, and by ending I literally mean the very last five seconds with Morgan Freeman's moronic voiceover about Hemingway.

wow, LOTR: ROTK really DOES have one of the worst endings ever, because it goes on forever and is so damn self-important and melodramatic. I love the LOTR series but man after 3 hours and five near-endings I was ready to get the hell out of there. If they had gone into that "scouring of the shire" business...

Has anyone actually seen this movie and figured out the ending?

*****Spoiler********

The ending shows the Arab guy's son and the white guy's son meeting up on familiar terms after school. It supposedly solves the mystery of the video tapes but I can't get the connection.
The movie has a creepily effective atmosphere and is actually well-made, which is why the answer to the mystery bugs me so much (if the film seemed like a hack job I probably wouldn't be bothered with it.)
the director himself says there is no answer to the ending. It's supposed to be ambiguous. you just have to live with the uncertainty.

I just watched that again a few days ago. I have no problem with Morgan Freeman saying anything; he's like the wise old black grandpa I never had.

There's that one M. Night Shamalayan movie, Signs, had a bullshit ending if I remember correctly. This girl inexplicably had glasses of water all over the house throughout the movie. Then when the aliens come, water falls on them and they burn! I don't know if that's exactly how it went, but that's how I remember it, and I remember thinking that he reached pretty damn far to find a "clever" ending.

I agree and so did the critics. The first 15 minutes even to maybe halway through the movie is awesome with Cruise just running away and not trying to be the tough guy like in every movie. The second half is like a completely different film and didn't fit in at all with the original feel.
