I've thought about opening a bar for years now. After being a bartender for so long, I guess it's only natural.

I'd really like to own a small bar, nothing too crazy or trendy. Have open mic comedy nights a few times a week. Then have jazz bands play on other nights.

Have a little kitchen for appetizers and sandwiches/burgers. And no little fo-fo frozen drinks would be made or allowed at all.

Have put a bit of thought into it. Owning a bar requires alot of work and planning, so thats been put off for a while for the closest future.

Bars/clubs suck. I've worked in the industry for 6 years.

I stick with upscale clubs mainly now. Here's a few of my observations as to why I don't ever want to own anything in the business:

- 95% of the ppl that work in the industry are shady.
- A high percentage us drugs (coke, crystal, k, whatever)
- Almost everyone is looking to steal/ make side money
- Lawsuits for everything from falling, DWIs, fights ect....
- Long hours I'm talking like 18 hour days (for bars anyhow)
-If you're the owner you can never take off
-Dealing with local authorities
-Bribing the fire marshal / code enforcement

I had delusions of owning my own place. Every bar/club I've ever worked at that had owners unfamiliar with the industry failed in the first two years.

Even now with the experience I have I wouldn't do it. It's not like in the movies.

I know people who run bars, its not as much fun as you might think. massive shifts everyday, drunk idiots to deal with all the time etc
