Is David Caruso a respected actor or known for being a joke?

I just watched CSI Miami for the first time and the acting is laughably cheesy especially Caruso's. I know he's a pretty famous actor but why? They brought him up in 40 year old virgin with Rogan giving Carrell advice to, "act like David Caruso in Jade". I haven't seen the movie and I can't imagine this guy playing any other character so I'm sure the jab from Rogen is practically telling Carrell to be overly smooth to the extreme. This dude is goofy. Have you guys seen anything genuine that you thought he acted realistically well in?

I think he's a joke. He made it somewhat big in NYPD Blue but not as big as he thought he was. He thought he was going to just leave a hit show and set the world on fire and what we got were horrendous movies like Jade. I don't watch any version of CSI but look how long it took for him to make it back to TV? I always laugh at actors like him. It was the same for most of the cast of E.R. They all left to again, set the world on fire and except for George Clooney, they all flopped.

I only ever remember seeing him in the First Rambo. He was pretty weak sauce.

People who respect actors generally don't respect David Caruso as an actor. People who are indifferent probably enjoy his work, considering that his show gets pretty good ratings. I think among young people he's become something of a joke due to the fact that he's a running punchline on the internet, but that shit is very corny.

he was ok in rambo, he was the only cop that wanted to leave him alone. Small role really, he had to be in his early 20's. Feeling too lazy to post the video of jim carrey on letterman doing caruso, it is classic.
