Dude, don't go out and buy RAM yet.

If you you have Windows. click on 'run' in the start menu and type dxdiag. Under the display tab, tell us the name of the video card. There is also information about your motherboard, RAM, and processor under the system tab. Let us know what it says...

From what you have said already, you are way below the recommended RAM and processor speed. Judging from that, your video card is probably not going to be up to par either. If you want to play Company of Heroes at decent settings, you are going to need a new computer all together.

I played that game. You need 1GB for sure.

It is actually not that well made of a game , performance wise. And you should never go by the minimum system req. try to meet the recommended ones or better.

COH can look very nice but it requires pretty decent hardware to be able to play with the settings turned up.

Basically, you could only add another 512MB of RAM, according to the Crucial.com tool. A video card upgrade wouldn't hurt, either. TigerDirect.com has a 128MB GeForce 6600GT for $90 - $40 rebate. It would be a significant improvement over your FX 5200. I'm assuming your video card is AGP.

so the most I can do to my PC right now is have 768 MB of RAM and if I install that video card will that be at least enough for Company of Heroes? if that still isn't enough then is there anything I can do to my current PC to let it upgrade the RAM to 2GB?

If you go with the upgrade I mentioned, it should be enough to play Company of Heroes on medium, maybe low, settings. Even my system can lag a little in that game. It's not an uber-gaming machine, but it's no chump.

The other thing you could do is upgrade the hell out of your computer, if you're willing to do that. New motherboard, CPU, RAM, and video card.

You would need a new motherboard to upgrade the RAM since it seems your current board can't handle more than 768MB. If you get a new motherboard, you'll need a new CPU, unless your Pentium 4 is a Socket 775, in which case you could still use it in motherboard for Intel CPUs. Also if you get a new motherboard, you'll need to buy RAM for it. I'm assuming your current motherboard only supports DDR, not DDR2. To top it all off, a video card upgrade would be in order. I personally wouldn't go with anything less than a GeForce 7600GT for moderate gaming.

Also, have you tried downloading the demo for Company of Heroes? I run an older system as well (P4 1.6, I just upgraded from 384MB to 1GB of RAM, GeforceGO440 64MB, laptop) and i don't play a lot of the newer games, but when it comes to older games i'll download the demo to see how compatible my computer is.

Great points, Magooglie.

Upgrading older computers can be sort of a chain reaction.

I had an AMD XP 1800+ when I downloaded the demo for Lego Star Wars and realized my video card (GeForce 4 440MX) couldn't handle it. So I upgraded the video card to a Radeon 9250, which wasn't much better, but it at least supported Shader Model. Then I decided to upgrade my CPU to a Sempron 3000+ so I could play Star Wars Battlefront 2. When I installed it, my computer would restart immediately after booting to the desktop. I found out it was because my memory was running at 266 MHz and I needed to get 333 MHz RAM to match my CPU bus speed.

Then it turns out that not all 256MB video cards are created equal, so I bought myself a 128MB GeForce 6600GT. After spending about $400 because I didn't do my research, I was finally able to play Star Wars. Since then I've upgraded a lot more and spent a lot more.

so I bought 512MB RAM and installed it but something is wrong because I checked the "system" on the control panel and it still says I have 256MB RAM, can anyone tell me what I did wrong?
