Contracts don't mean shit when it comes to unemployment benefits. The only thing that needs to be shown is that the individual is unemployed. If the individual is not performing services and not receiving wages then they are unemployed and can file a valid claim. The unemployment commission doesn't give a shit what contract you signed with the employer. Employers think they are being slick when they have someone sign a release agreeing not to file a claim for benefits when they are discharged or quit. Statutory law in all states as far as a I know clearly state that an individual cannot contractually waive their right to unemployment benefits. In Texas if an individual stops work at the end of the day and doesn't know when work is next available for them then they are unemployed and can file a valid claim.

You should work on yourself and become a more valuable asset to the company so that shit like this doesn't happen and you can take pride in not living off a stipend derived from other people's salaries.

What a line of bullshit. If the employer does not like the quality of your work then they have option of firing you. It's a complete chickenshit move to take someone off the schedule without any explanation and watch them beg for more hours. If they want to play that fucking game then go and file a claim for benefits and let them know that you have legal options. They will think twice when they decide to do it again. I've seen countless people who were good, honest employees get screwed over by greedy, scumbag employers who take them off the schedule and hope that they are ignorant enough not to exercise their legal rights.

Secondly, people that collect unemployment benefits are not living off a stipend derived from other people's salaries. Individuals do not pay one red cent out of their paychecks for unemployment benefits. Take a look at the deductions on your paycheck stub and you will not see any deductions for unemployment benefits. The UI system is supported by liable employer's paying taxes into the UI trust fund. Go do some legal research before you run your mouth off.

You should read an entire thread before you comment. I am doing just fine thanks and this is not for me, I would tell you who it is for, but that information is readily available in the thread you did not read.

Right, so unemployment money does not come from people's taxes/deductions...rather it is printed by the government specifically for people in unemployment.

Next thing you'll say that you don't understand why milk costs more just because gas prices went up.

You shut your mouth when you're talking to me.
