Buying a new television questions
Ok my wife is wanting to purchase a new TV and we only have about $600 or so that I would like to spend. Of course she would like to spend more to get a 42" but as I have said, I don't want to go much higher than the $600 and in fact am perfectly fine with the 5 year old 27" we currently have in our living room. Any suggestions as to what brands, types, and where to look? And no i haven't used the search function and yes, google is my friend but I was wanting to hear some opinions on the subject from those in here.

Cool. Several depts where I work have bought that brand for different floors and the ones that didn't get stolen (lol) have held up fairly nicely even for being left on 24/7. And the prices I have seen seem to be reasonable.
And to answer your question, I work 2nd shift and during the day I watch the kids. So I don't care as much about the quality of picture regarding Dora, Diego, Ni Hao Kai-Lan, Wonder Pets....you get the idea. But on the weekends and for the fight PPVs, yes I admit a nice TV would be kickass.

You can save a couple hundred dollars if you buy a floor model.

If you are tight on cash DO NOT BUY A NEW TV.
To make a nice new TV worth the purchase requires spending a ton of money on the proper television package, to buy cables etc...
If you don't spend on these things, your fancy new TV will actually look WORSE than the TV you current;y have.
Don't fall into the trap of consumerism just because others are buying them (myself included) if you don't have the finances to afford it now. Plus, when you can actually afford it prices will have fallen and the TVs will be better.

Damn you brackis and your realistic, somber advice!! In your opinion, how much is a reasonable starting price for a quality tele. And btw, i posed this question to an a/v geek buddy of mine and he gave me the same answer minus the Kimbo

A quality television can, in and of itself, be had for $600-$1000 if you cut your teeth doing deal searching and a little research, and are okay buying a TV over the internet.
An HD cable package+HD box rental is going to run you $50-100 a month, cables another $50, proper mounting or stand another $50-150.
What do you currently pay for your cable ?
Do you play video games or want to watch a lot of movies on your TV?
