I've got a puzzler for the experts out there. I'm running XP and I've set my computer to update the time by way of the internet and recently it hasn't been doing it. No viruses or spyware, I'm running Zone Alarm and Kaspersky. With Zone Alarm shutoff I can update by the time.windows.com server but can't with Zone Alarm on. What exactly am I looking for under programs in Zone Alarm do I look for? I've went down the list but can't really ID any specific program to give permissions for.

Yes, this thread is the shit.

I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to computer stuff, I only use the one at work so I'm not allowed to any experimenting with shit.

Until yesterday...

This friend of mine got a new laptop so she gave me her old desktop. She said "It's all yours, just promise you'll 'whitewash' it."

WTF does that mean, exactly? I don't want to uninstall ALL the programs, but I think she wants to make sure that no personal things she may have left on there will be found, either by me or a future owner/user of the computer.

So, I'm thinking that CCleaner will do the trick, but if I'm wrong, I'd appreciate someone telling me and pointing me in the right direction. I don't have internet at home, but I can DL CCleaner (or whatever else I might need) here and take it home.

I will definitely be doing so with GIMP and that AUDACITY.

Good thread !

I would recommend HJSPLIT.
It is an application to split large files. Very easy to use.

Is GIMP a good photo editor? (what I'm looking to do is take people out of photos and put different ones in plus maybe adding speech bubbles)

If so, is there a guide on how to do it?

You can also select which programs you don't want to start automatically, bu using Ccleaner. Just go to Tools, then, Start UP, and delete the programs you don't want to open when your computer turns on.

Usually, your computer will start some Java and Adobe stuff that you do not need!!!
