I just downloaded avast for free and CCleaner and ran both. Ive not noticed any difference in my computer yet, but they seemed to have did their job. CCleaner took alot of crap off my computer, with no ill effects. Avast took forever to scan, and the results came up with no infected files.
However avast did say it took down my instant messaging shield etc, but apparently since the icon is blue Im being protected.

Nice thread, thanks for the heads up.

Make sure you run CCleaner for both types of apps. Also select the issues tab and run it for that. Also use it to uninstall your programs instead of the uninstall that comes with them or the add/remove programs that comes with windows.

I would also suggest downloading Revo Uninstaller. It will delete any traces of what you were doing from your computer and clean up any junk files (extensions for temp files) that are on your computer. Revo Uninstaller +CCleaner will keep your PC spotless in terms of random junk and useless info.

Windows Start Up Inspector - You can choose which programs start automatically when you turn on your comp. For instance if your computer starts up really slow you can de-select certain applications from running automatically so your computer can start up quicker.

you don't need a program for that

- Press the start menu
- Go to run
- Type in "msconfig"
- A window will pop up.
- Click the "start up" tab at the top
- de-select whatever you don't want to start up.
- Click Apply at the bottom
- A new window will pop up
- Choose if you want to restart now or restart later, doesn't matter what one.
- You're done.

is this like "disk cleanup" but way better?

Let me put it like this. If Disk Cleanup was a caveman, CCleaner would be Elbert Einstein.

Ive got a trojan horse stuck on my computer, AVG anti-virus doesnt pick it up, spybot doesnt pick it up, my firewall doesnt pick it up. None of the ones I download picks it, up, what should I do? What is best for trojan horses? It randomly opens Internet Explorer and brings me to online poker sites!!
