THE AVENGERS Thread 2.0 (Brand New Awesome Trailer!)
Update: March 1, 2012
Brand New Trailer for THE AVENGERS is the Best One Yet
Avengers Assemble! Marvel Studios has released a brand new theatrical trailer for their upcoming superhero ensemble pic, The Avengers. I am seriously geeking out right now. The second trailer is the best Avengers trailer yet, they even got the music right this time. Among the many highlights are Captain America, Iron Man and Thor brawling in the forest, Iron Man falling and the Hulk catching him in mid-air, and of course, we finally have footage of the "Leviathan."
Directed by Joss Whedon, the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, and Samuel L. Jackson. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4th.
THE AVENGERS Said to Be Marvel Studios "Best Outing Yet"
The ever reliable Quint over at Ain't It Cool News has received word that the buzz surrounding The Avengers is extremely positive, with even those who weren't initially convinced said to be impressed. This may substantiate unconfirmed (and overwhelmingly positive) reports from those claiming to have seen an early cut of the film.
"Word 'round the campfire is Marvel considers The Avengers to be their best outing yet. I've talked to some cynics in the group who weren't sure it was going to come together and they're all doing their mea culpas now. They say it has the heart, the action, the humor and the suspense a movie like The Avengers should have. The only criticisms I've heard is that Whedon's eye isn't as cinematic as it should be, but that the rest of the movie is so good that you accept it."
The "not cinematic" comment might refer to Whedon's primary strength as a storyteller rather than visual artist while some filmmakers, like James Cameron and Michael Bay, have an eye for eye-candy. Over in the comment section of the article that the above quote was taken from, Quint elaborated on that comment.
"When I asked "Does it look like TV?" The source's response was in the affirmative. But he/she/it has always been honest with me and said that even though it looks like TV you don't mind it because the rest of the movie is so good."
Watch the One-Minute Super Bowl TV Spot for THE AVENGERS!
The Avengers 30-second Super Bowl TV spot as well as the 1-minute extended version are now online and offers lots of great new footage. My favorites are Iron Man flying straight up to the alien ship while coming under enemy fire and the Hulk making his full appearance debut while rampaging and smashing things in mid-air over New York City. And of course, we finally get to see the famous dialogue exchange between Loki and Tony Stark that brought down the house in Comic-Con.
Directed by Joss Whedon, the film stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Tom Hiddleston. Marvel's The Avengers opens in 2D and 3D IMAX on May 4th.
Synopsis: Marvel Studios presents in association with Paramount Pictures “Marvel’s The Avengers”–the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.
Awesome AVENGERS Scene Description from Asia Toy Fair!
Over at the SuperheroHype forums (via CBM), user Dekard66 has posted what seems to be several potential spoilers for Marvel's superhero spectacle movie The Avengers depicting scene descriptions with Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, as well clips with the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier and the Incredible Hulk. Dekard66 says he works for a big toy company and that his friend just came back from an Asia Toy Fair where Marvel and Disney presented new clips from the film.
The first clip shows Black Widow in a black party dress tied to a chair. A bad guy talks smack to her and slaps her. He mocks her but she's not intimidated and says some funny stuff back in typical Whedon dialogue. Her cellphone rings and one of the thugs answers it. He says it's for her and hands her the cell. On the other line is Agent Coulson who says General Fury needs her back pronto. She tells Coulson to hold on a minute, then proceeds to kick the crap out of the thugs and eventually breaks free by smashing the chair on someone's head. Afterwards, she picks up the phone and tells Coulson she's on her way.

Russian Trailer for THE AVENGERS with New Snippets of Footage
Similar to the international German trailer for Marvel's superhero ensemble movie The Avengers, a new Russian trailer has hit the net revealing more snippets of footage. The new trailer is basically the same as previous trailers except for a few footage shown in the exclusive D23 screening. Among the highlights are Loki's conversation with Tony Stark (Loki bragging "I have an army," and Stark responding "We have a Hulk.") and a brief look at Bruce Banner's transformation into the Hulk.
German Trailer for THE AVENGERS with Some New Footage!
A German trailer for Joss Whedon's The Avengers has been released online, courtesy of CBM. There are some new shots in this trailer featuring glimpses of that meeting between Black Widow and Bruce Banner we have heard about, as well as a few more nice action shots of Thor and Cap. There are some more blink and you'll miss 'em shots too. Below the video is a translation of the new dialogue.
0:31 ->
Widow: You have to join.
Banner: And what if I say no?
Widow: Then I will convince you to.
0:36 ->
Stark: Let's just look who we got here. We have some super assassins. A man with breathtaking anger management problems. A Demigod. A Super Soldier. And...me.
1:15 ->
Thor: You have no idea who you are dealing with.
1:18 ->
Banner: We are no team. We are a time bomb.
Possible Details Revealed on New Trailer for THE AVENGERS
CBM has received an e-mail from a French reader who was among the few privately invited to evaluate a new international 3D trailer for The Avengers. The anonymous person elaborates in detail on the new trailer containing tons of new footage. The Hulk can now be seen in full motion glory stomping either his teammates or the aliens. The source then praise the 3D aspect of the preview especially when Cap throws his shield or Hawkeye shoots his arrow towards the audience. Another cool 3D moment was when they showed the interior display monitors from Iron Man's helmet and letting the audience feel like in control of the armor.
Another positive point is that the new international trailer didn't feel like "Iron Man and friends" with each member given ample screen time. The best part of it all is the trailer's running time is clocked at 3 minutes and 15 seconds. The trailer is expected to be released at the end of January.

Alan Silvestri Confirmed to Be the Composer for THE AVENGERS
It was rumored a few weeks ago that Academy Award-nominated composer Alan Silvestri was going to score for Joss Whedon's The Avengers. CBM has now confirmed via Silvestri's official webpage that he will indeed be the doing the musical arrangement for Earth's mightiest heroes. The Avengers is now in post-production, so expect an official announcement soon.
Silvestri is best known for his collaborations with director Robert Zemeckis, having scored Romancing the Stone, the Back to the Future trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Beowulf, and many more. Silvestri is also known for his work on Predator and Predator 2, both of which are considered preeminent examples of action/science fiction film scores.
As much as I love Silvestri, I found his score on Captain America: The First Avenger to be just decent. The Avengers should have signed breakout composer Patrick Doyle who did an amazing job on Thor and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

First Theatrical Trailer for Joss Whedon's THE AVENGERS!
(Posted first by Fatt Hughes)
The first trailer for writer/director Joss Whedon’s The Avengers is now available online. The plot is simple and to the point: Loki wants to destroy the Earth, and Nick Fury puts a team of superheroes together to stop him. While this may be a “team”, the star of the trailer (and perhaps the movie) is Robert Downey Jr. He gets both the laugh lines and the bad-ass lines.
The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, and Cobie Smulders. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4th, 2012.

New Images and Character Details from THE AVENGERS
After massive amounts of set photos and video from Joss Whedon’s The Avengers leaking online, Disney and Marvel have apparently decided to start releasing official images from the movie. After last week’s image, set photos, and head-shots, we now have five new images from the movie plus the previously-released image, all in hi-res. There’s also a new official set photo in the bunch. All in all, the images from the movie look pretty good.
Click HERE to see the official images and HERE for more set photos.
Just like clockwork, EW.com has released new images and set photos from The Avengers following the poorly photo-shopped cover-shot they posted earlier this morning. The images provide better looks at the superhero costumes for Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) as well as Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) firing two guns at once because that’s how the pros do it.
Because it’s more fun to reveal everything piece-meal, EW.com has released yet another Avengers story after the very bad magazine cover they unveiled this morning, and the much better set photos and character images this afternoon. This time we get a lot of substance, as the principal actors from director Joss Whedon’s all-star superhero movie sat down to talk about their characters. They actually divulge some great little tidbits about where we find their characters at the beginning of the film, and we get a good sense of the dynamic of the group.
CBM Confirms Thanos in THE AVENGERS; Major Details Revealed
While we still don't know the names of mysterious aliens in Joss Whedon and Marvel's The Avengers, CBM confirms the other villain in the film is Thanos. This is not something we haven't heard before. Those who read a report from Latino Review, who broke the news a few months back, about the mad titan appearing in the movie. Plus CBM has some new info on what happens in the film, so don't read the next paragraph below if you don't want to know.
"Ok, so...The other big villain we will see is THANOS. Latino Review broke that news in May but since then it has been pretty quiet regarding that. Well, according to my source, he is indeed in the film and the mysterious aliens everyone is talking about, is his army. As for the plot details, well, it will be very interesting...
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Basically Thanos makes a deal with Loki (like Hiddleston said in one interview that Loki makes some shady deals) to get him the Infinity Gauntlet. He trades his army for the Gauntlet. And that's about it. No word on what 'Leviathan' is though."
Loki and Captain America Clash on THE AVENGERS Set
According to one of the movie's extra, Terminal Tower was being used as a museum, and the extra told NewsChannel5 that the character Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, attacked someone in front of hundreds of museum visitors and was making his getaway when the police arrived. Hundreds of extras were seen running in fear multiple times from the set. The most exciting part of the night came at around 2:30 a.m. when the crew used a pneumatic ram mounted in the rear of a German police car to flip it onto its roof.
Click HERE, HERE, and HERE to see the images and videos.
[Update: 8/25/11] CBM was contacted by an extra who was on the set during filming who has some VERY interesting information to share about the dialogue between Cap and Loki as well as some casting news and scene details.
Detailed Description of THE AVENGERS D23 Expo Footage
A thorough description of The Avengers footage has been posted online, and it reveals tons of new details including action scenes, a fight between two teammates and the tension filled confrontation between Fury and Loki.
While much of the plot remains under wraps (look for an EW cover story next month to reveal First Look photos and exclusive details of the story), Attendants of Disney's D23 Expo got to see snippets of two tense scenes between Nick Fury and Loki, and Iron Man alter-ego Tony Stark and the god-gone-wild. Footage description courtesy of EW:
(Skipping to the last part) Boom! The crowd goes nuts!
Marvel Releases the Official Teaser Trailer for THE AVENGERS
For some reason, Marvel has decided to release the final scene from Captain America: The First Avenger online, along with a trailer for the trailer for The Avengers that plays at the end of the credits. But if you haven’t seen the movie yet, it would be wiser to steer clear of the video.
Directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johanssen, Mark Ruffalo and Samuel L. Jackson. The film opens in 3D on May 4, 2012.
Warning: The trailer reveals part of the ending of Captain America: The First Avenger.
Marvel Releases Concept Art Comic-Con Posters from THE AVENGERS
Marvel has released the final banner from its collection of exclusive Comic-Con concept art posters for The Avengers. On top of the art being pretty stellar, it’s really just nice to see the whole gang together on one sheet. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson, writer/director Joss Whedon’s The Avengers hits theaters next summer on May 4th.
Click HERE and HERE to see the individual posters.
Amanda Righetti to Play Sharon Carter in THE AVENGERS
Over the weekend, we learned the latest cast member for Marvel's much-anticipated Captain America: The First Avenger film was The Mentalist actress Amanda Righetti. And we also found out that she'd be expanding her minor S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent role in next summer's The Avengers. What we didn't know, however, was who the recognizable actress would be portraying, and whether or not it'd be from the comics. Well someone, via SHH, is claiming who that may be, offering the following:
- (SPOILERS) Amanda Righetti is in fact playing Sharon Carter. My friend gave me some details and said that at the end of Cap and Righetti/Sharon is there, and Cap mistakes her for Peggy. In The Avengers, Sharon will be there as a way for Steve to vent about Peggy.
- Also, I was told that a certain other actress is in fact cast as Carol Danvers. Its pretty exciting! I cant wait for the news to break out.
- Just a heads up guys, The Avengers teaser will be posted online in HD either on the 22nd or 23rd.
- Also, Hulk is in the teaser. When Thor throws mjolnir at the end its thrown at The Hulk. It just shows the back of his head though.
THE AVENGERS Promo Poster Gives First Look at Hawkeye's Costume
(Courtesy of Pinoy Ninja)
The Licensing International Expo begins tomorrow, but a promo poster for The Avengers has already hit the web. We got our first look at a promo poster featuring the logo a couple of weeks ago, but this one features the actual Avengers in full costume. While the poster is a drawing instead of a photo, we still get a feel for the costumes. The Hawkeye costume seems to be inspired from the Ultimate version rather than the 616 original.
The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, and Samuel L. Jackson. The film opens in 3D on May 4, 2012.
EXCLUSIVE: As we speak The Avengers is currently in production. What do we know so far? Back in March Latino Review exclusively reported that the main villain for "The Avengers" is none other than Thor's adoptive brother and archenemy Loki and that he will need some serious muscle to go up against "The Avengers" and he does this by using the cosmic cube. Loki uses the cube to get a hold of the Aliens (aka The Skrulls) to invade Earth and fight "The Avengers." Skrulls are green-skinned reptilian humanoids with large pointed ears, red or green eyes, and corrugated chins.
But that’s not at all. In the famous last of words of Master Yoda…”There is another…” Yes. There is another big time villain in The Avengers!
According to very trusted always on point sources, Latinoreview has exclusively learned that the other villain in The Avengers is… …THANOS!
Thanos' name is a derivation of Thanatos, the personification of death and mortality in Greek mythology. One of his more prominent storylines to date—the Infinity Gauntlet series—portrayed him as a mad cosmic tyrant bent on slaying half of all sentiences existing then in Marvel's multiverse in order to appease the Marvel Universe's actual embodied personification of Death in an attempt to win its love. Thanos has consistently recurred as a powerful villain, and has been featured across nearly Marvel's entire product line, including animated television series; arcade and video games; toys and trading cards.
THE AVENGERS Set Photos, Budget, and Filming Information Revealed
Superherohype scooper sent in these photos of a set for Marvel's The Avengers, which is currently filming for a May 4, 2012 release. The source wrote: "These were taking in Albuquerque, NM where they are filming the Avengers movie aka GH aka Group Hug. They have leased the old Santa Fe rail yard. Cheers!"
Thanks to cincinnati.com, we now have a little more information about the estimated budget of the 2012 summer superhero blockbuster along with a few more details about filming in Ohio: Kristen Erwin, who is the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Film Commission executive director, has stated that The Avengers will have an estimated budget of $170 million and will be spending about $30 million in Ohio alone.
Erwin also stated that they will shoot in Ohio for two weeks. She could not reveal an exact location, but did say that it would be within 30 miles of Cincinnati and that they're "still negotiation a location agreement" with Marvel Studios. In short, Cleveland and Southwestern Ohio will be the two main spots for filming of The Avengers when they visit the state.
Tom Hiddleston Talks about Loki and the Script for THE AVENGERS
Tom (Hiddleston), are you the main villain or are there others that you are working with?
"Well this is the first time I’ve had to talk about it because for so long I was asked to not say anything. You are the first to ask me, you won’t be the only one, but you are the first. Loki has big, big plans and it’s going to take more that just Thor to stop him this time."
Have you read the entire script to The Avengers yet, and if so, what did you think?
"Dude it’s absolutely amazing let me just tell you. I read the script again the other day and Joss Whedon has written the most extraordinary template of a film for this to happen. I feel like he has balanced it so well. All the different elements you want from all the different colors and flavors of each character are in there. Arguably seven not just four characters are in this and I think Joss has made a virtue of that potential unbalance.
These are seven big egos, and I’m referring to the characters not the actors. They all want to be the alpha male, or in Black Widow’s case the alpha female. So he has made a virtue of that by having them all compete for the top dog slot. And while they are all fighting each other Loki can get to his business. Look it’s Hulk, Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Nick Fury. What more can you ask for?"

Marvel Officially Announces the Start of Filming on THE AVENGERS
Here's the press release:
Production has commenced today in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated movie “Marvel’s The Avengers,” directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Whedon. The film will continue principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City. Robert Downey, Jr. returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Set for release in the US on May 4, 2012, Marvel’s The Avengers is the first feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009.
Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel’s The Avengers is the super hero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.
Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1963, Marvel’s The Avengers brings together the mightiest super hero characters as they all assemble together on screen for the first time. The star studded cast of super heroes will be joined by Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Tom Hiddleston and Stellan Skarsgård who will both reprise their respective roles as Loki and Professor Erik Selvig from the upcoming Marvel Studios’ feature Thor.
Paul Bettany Returns as J.A.R.V.I.S. for THE AVENGERS
Spidermedia's RealIrOnMaN got the opportunity to sit down with actor Paul Bettany, who voices Iron Man's Tony Stark's artificially intelligent computer J.A.R.V.I.S. While promoting Priest, the actor speaks on Jon Favreau and confirms involvement on the Armored Avenger's next appearance.
When asked if he were invited by Joss Whedon to record some J.A.R.V.I.S lines for The Avengers since Tony Stark has a big presence in this movie too, this is what Bettany had to say:
"[After thinking for a minute] Yes, I am involved in this project. Don't know when we will start though, usually they (guys at Marvel) call me, when they're almost finished with the movie, so we will see where this goes."
Joss Whedon's THE AVENGERS Starts Filming on Monday
Marvel Studios' crossover phenomenon The Avengers is becoming closer to actuality with director Joss Whedon issuing a statement via Whedonesque, addressing, confirming, and alerting fans that principal photography begins tomorrow.
"Hi Pumpkins, joss here. Tomorrow we start shooting (I THINK I'm legally permitted to say that). Day one. That's right. We'll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene, at the following address:
[Marvel Lawyers rush in, take Joss's keyboard, blowtorch a picture of his family like in "Stormy Monday", drink his milkshake, leave the seat up, fluff his pillows, violently unfluff his pillows, leave]
So wish me luck. DO IT! LUCK! NOW! I'm off to finish some Buffy pages, and then figure out what the movie is about already. I'm pretty sure it's about the Justice League [Marvel Lawyers re-enter, unspeakability occurs] or possibly something else. I'll get it. I've been looking forward to this. For about 46 years.
Catchphrase!"

THE AVENGERS Script is "The Best Script for a Marvel Movie Ever"
Though Marvel is releasing Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger this year, everyone knows the true flick that has fans waiting with bated breath is the all-star event that is The Avengers. Writer/director Joss Whedon is assembling his team of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johanssen to start shooting the film very soon. While plot details are under lock and key, James Gunn, writer/director of the indie-superhero flick Super recently spoke at SXSW, picked up by Wired, about what he’s heard regarding Whedon’s script for The Avengers:
“Everybody I know who’s read it says it’s by far the best script for a Marvel movie ever. I’m very, very excited about it. Nobody loves superheroes more than Joss. He’s really got his heart in the right place.”
Fans around the world over can effectively let out a tiny sigh of relief at that confirmation from cult-favorite Gunn, though the anticipation/trepidation is far from over as the flick’s got a long way to go before it reaches audiences. The refreshingly candid bits from Gunn revolve around Hollywood’s current obsession with superhero movies, and are definitely worth checking out over at Wired. The Avengers is slated for a May 4th, 2012 release.
Tom Hiddleston's Loki Will Be the Villian in THE AVENGERS!
For quite some time no one really knew who The Avengers would fight in the upcoming 2012 movie that Joss Whedon is directing. There were stories that the HULK would be the villain and even in 2009 it reported that Kevin Feige sort of hinted that the Skrulls might be the villains.
Latino Review has the scoop and their reliable inside sources have confirmed with them who the villain is and much more. There was some stories that the Skrulls were in the movie but of course the powers that be denied it as usual. The main villain for The Avengers is none other than Thor's adoptive brother and archenemy LOKI!"
Tom Hiddleston will portray Loki in the upcoming live-action Marvel Studios film "Thor" directed by Kenneth Branagh. But that's not all, Loki needs some serious muscle to go up against The Avengers and he does this by using the cosmic cube seen in Captain America: The First Avenger images. Loki uses the cube to get a hold of the Aliens (aka The Skrulls) to invade Earth and fight The Avengers. Skrulls are green-skinned reptilian humanoids with large pointed ears, red or green eyes, and corrugated chins.
Stellan Skarsgard to Reprise His Thor Role in THE AVENGERS
A user over on the Whedonesque boards has posted a rough translation of a story in a Swedish newspaper where it was revealed that the Thor star will reprise his role in the Joss Whedon directed epic, The Avengers.
"The Avengers" is the dream team of superheroes, a group consisting of among others Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America and Thor. The film is planned to premier in 3D in May of next year. Stellan Skarsgård confirms to TT Spektra that he will play the same role as in the upcoming "Thor": Doctor Selvig. Not much is yet known about the character apart from that Selvig is a scientist in New Mexico.
The most interesting thing about this news is why exactly his character will return in the upcoming superhero team-up. Everything we've heard so far has pointed to Loki being the (or one of the) villains in the movie, so perhaps his character will have something to do with that?
Cobie Smulders Confirmed to Play Maria Hill in THE AVENGERS
We heard over the weekend that Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) was close to landing the role of S.H.I.E.L.D. executive director Maria Hill in The Avengers, intended as a sidekick of sorts for Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. Variety confirms that Smulders is wrapping up a deal with Marvel to appear as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in up to nine films. The character’s name isn’t specified, but the bio — “Character would work closely with Jackson’s Nick Fury, and eventually becomes the head of the espionage and law enforcement group” — sounds very similar to that of Ms. Hill.
[From Marvel Wiki] Originally from Chicago Maria Hill joined SHIELD and rose to the position of commander. After Colonel Nicholas Fury’s “Secret War” Maria was chosen to be director of SHIELD by the President himself after he commended her on her work while she was stationed on assignment in Madripoor. Although many others who she herself admitted were better suited for position were not considered for directorship she was assigned director. It has emerged that Maria was chosen as the other candidates were “Fury Loyalists” and SHIELD needed “new direction.”
Chris Hemsworth Says THE AVENGERS Script Is “Incredible”
While it’s never really startling news to hear actors sing the praises of movie scripts they’re set to star in, most movies aren’t the huge event that Joss Whedon’s The Avengers almost promises to be. With that in mind, in a recent interview at the Sundance Film Festival Thor star Chris Hemsworth didn’t hesitate to pump up an early draft of The Avengers script saying:
“I saw a very early draft and, yeah, it’s incredible. Look, everything about the story in the comic books is huge. You have these huge, big superheroes and these huge, big egos kind of crammed into one small space.”
Although hearing that a movie with the biggest heroes in the Marvel Universe is “huge” isn’t exactly earth-shattering, it’s always nice to get positive updates from one of the most anticipated films of 2012. In addition to The Avengers, Hemsworth was also tight-lipped regarding a Jeremy Renner-Thor cameo claiming he hadn’t seen the actor in his Hawkeye costume and adding:
“Maybe, I don’t know. I can’t deny or confirm anything (laughs)…He wasn’t on set when I was there.”
First Look at the SHIELD Helicarrier in Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS
The first look at the concept art for the SHIELD Helicarrier in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers has gone online. The Helicarrier was originally supposed to appear in Iron Man 2. According to Spidermedia.ru [via io9], Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige “wants to build one of these puppies atop the convention center for the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con.” Because Comic-Con isn’t stressful enough without being worried that you’ll be crushed to death by a giant marketing gimmick.
Click the link to see the concept art and to learn more about the helicarrier The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, and Samuel L. Jackson. It’s slated to open in 3D on May 4, 2012.
Hulk to be a Motion Capture Performance in THE AVENGERS
Here’s some cool news for everyone that’s anticipating The Avengers. Mark Ruffalo has revealed that unlike the previous Hulk movies that featured the creature as an all CGI creation, Ruffalo will actually be playing the Hulk in The Avengers as he’s going to do the performance through motion-capture performance. We’ve seen the technology used in such films as Lord of the Rings and Avatar, and it’ll be interesting to see a Hulk that is an actor’s creation and not made in some computer. Here's what Ruffalo said about this development:
“I’m really excited. No one’s ever played the Hulk exactly, they’ve always done CGI. They’re going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I’ll actually play the Hulk. That’ll be fun.
I really love the first TV version of it, the Bill Bixby one. I’m gonna shoot for that a little bit. He was an everyman in it. He’s always on the run and trying to find love. It’s really a sympathetic character, before he turns into the Hulk and fucks everything up.”
The Marvel Studios panel has ended just a few minutes ago, and while it seemed like it finished with some more Thor footage, the biggest surprise was yet to come as you can see from the following updates taken directly from Newsarama's live feed of the event!
The Avengers have assembled on stage. Samuel L Jackson (Nick Fury), is joined by Clark Greg (Shield agent Caulson), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man). Jeremy Renner was once again confirmed as Hawkeye, and Mark Ruffalo is confirmed as Bruce Banner, the Incredible Hulk! The rumors were right. Joss Whedon, Director of The Avengers, joined the cast on stage after a little riffing by Downey
They posed for pics, and left the stage as quickly as they came on. Just a tease, guys, it's two years away after all. That's it for the Marvel Studios panel and all for our LIVE coverage from Saturday at Comic-Con International: San Diego!
It's Official: Mark Ruffalo is the Hulk in THE AVENGERS
EXCLUSIVE: Deadline just learned the ink is drying on the deal reached by Brillstein Entertainment Partners with Marvel. So it looks like Marvel movie mastermind Kevin Feige may pull this off and bring Mark Ruffalo along with other of The Avengers superheroes and director Joss Whedon to tomorrow night's panel at Comic-Con. Marvel made a pittance of an offer to Edward Norton to continue in the role. But it caught the actor by surprise that the studio decided to replace him altogether with no advance warning. Like Norton, Ruffalo would bring real chops to the role. But, unlike Norton, he won't be an on-set asshole.
"I'm writing and directing it," Joss Whedon recently told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the pop culture convention. "There will be some avenging that takes place during the film and that's about all I can tell you. I think it's well-known that Jeremy Renner is joining us as Hawkeye, which is so exciting for me and the rest of the cast."

Its no surprise of course, but nice to have it FINALLY confirmed. Marvel for whatever reason, have never sent out any kind of official press release. Whedon is still outlining and reworking The Avengers. What really drew him to the story is that it’s totally counter intuitive for all of these characters to be in the same room let alone on the same team and “that, to me, is family.”
"Can I make that an official thing? I am directing THE AVENGERS! It's a little early, I am still writing an outline and reworking it. What interested me is these people (Avengers) shouldn't be in the same room as one another & that to me is the definition of family."
Whedon is the creator of the hit TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and cult favorite Firefly. His run of the Astonishing X-Men was one of Marvel's best selling lines and was nominated for several Eisner Awards.
Edward Norton Will NOT Be The Hulk In THE AVENGERS!

A HitFix report is claiming that, perhaps in spite of his best hopes, Edward Norton will not be reprising his role as “The Hulk” in Marvel Studios’ future blockbuster. It seems as if Marvel and Norton did not initially see eye-to-eye in terms of what the actor would make for his contributions. As such, the comic juggernauts now seem to be looking to cast the wardrobe-ripping member of the Avengers with someone more affordable (Note: “more affordable” is a euphemism for an “unknown”).
Marvel sent Hitfix this statement. Sounds like it wasn’t about money…
“We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.”
Jeremy Renner Has Signed to Play Hawkeye in THE AVENGERS
It's been rumored since last November and now we finally have confirmation: Jeremy Renner will star as Hawkeye in Marvel Studios' THE AVENGERS. Word that Renner was in the running to play the marksman began to leak while the actor was making the rounds promoting THE HURT LOCKER for the various pre-Oscar awards (he'd later get nominated as Best Actor for his performance). So what took so long?
For one, Renner was considering two other big projects. He was heavily courted by Universal to star in Peter Berg's BATTLESHIP, a role he eventually turned down. He was also seriously considering a starring role opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman in Paul Thomas Anderson's untitled it's-not-about-Scientology movie. As PTA's movie continued to see delays, Renner's schedule freed up enough that he felt comfortable taking the gig.
Another selling point for Renner was that Hawkeye is more of a supporting character in the film, which will allow him to still participate in Anderson's film if financing comes together. Renner joins Robert Downey, Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans in the movie that will be directed by Joss Whedon.
