Anyone Speak Chinese?

Well, I’m actually not completely sure it’s Chinese. I have an old scroll I would like to know more about. There is some writing at one end I was hoping to understand. Does this look familiar to anyone?

Thanks for the help.

Difference between speaking and reading characters. I speak a limited amount but can only read / write my name. Evil Eye Gouger reads it I think.

Luba does, I'm sure he'll be along shortly.

Thanks guys. I know there are many dialects and variations so I don’t have high hopes; I was just taking a shot in the dark by posting it here.

By the virtue of being Japanese I can read some Chinese characters, but calligraphy is extra difficult to understand since it's like Chinese cursive. Still, they might be able to help you out.

if my mandarin is correct, it reads "come to the mountains [some mountain range], we'll give you a discounted fare on a trolly ride" . . .

Sorry, I can't be much of help. It is written in classical Chinese and I can't understand it. I know almost all of the characters, but I've never studied classical Chinese to a very high level. Even a Chinese person couldn't tell you the meaning unless they studied classical Chinese to a high level and maybe used reference material probably. I can tell you in the first picture I see the name Qian Long, who was an emperor. This might be mentioning him or that time in history. Here is the Wikipedia article on that emperor if you have any interest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qianlong

In the third picture it says Fugaofang Shanjiangcun Liang(ji)tu. This is a description of the picture; it's the pictures name and the town it's from.

I can read a couple characters in the stamps, but that's all. They are usually old Chinese characters and hard to read. One is probably the stamp from the person that painted it. They use blocks to stamp official documents and stuff like a signature.

That's about all I got. Sorry I couldn't help more. I can ask my wife when she gets home, but I doubt she can help much more.

Ok, thanks for the info and taking the time to have a look. Does the mentioning of the emperor perhaps indicate the time it was painted?

The red footnote means "free litchi juice included with ride"
