i'm in the process of redoing my family room in to a home theatre. you guys have any suggestion on what kind of speakers are good? my budget is around 500 for receiever and 1000 speakers, preferbly 5.1

I recently bought Klipsch quintet and 10 inch sub. Got it all for 50 percent off on black friday (so worth it). Still need a reciever tho. But the speakers sound great (my friend has the same, also you can hear them at best buy)

Switch it around. Pay more for a good amplifier, it's easier to make the wrong choice with an amplifier, especially if you're not willing to pay for quality.

Any home theater system you pick will suck if you don't acoustically treat the room you're listenining in for natural reverbations. Google it, get the appropiate foam and bass traps. You'll thank me later.

I love my Yamaha system. About 1000 for everything.
