If you're new to it and you're already doing side jobs solo....you'll be fried in no time.
1. Never trust that anybody has turned off the breaker for you..always do it yourself.
2. Lick tests are not recommended, uless you can make somebody else do them.
3. Ask professionals with real credentials..not anybody on the inter webz who may just be exagerrating...slightly.

I'm not an electrician but common sense would dictate that working on circuits that may be potentially live + ****l = great way to get shocked; hence not wearing ****l. Unless those pins are protruding from your body, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

by no means am I an electrician, the most I've done is replace light switches or outlets in my house, but wouldn't this depend on the quantity and type of ****l used for the screws?

Orthopedic screws are usually made of a stainless steel or titanium alloy.

As well wouldn't anyone that has had a vasectomy be way more worried then someone that had screws in their shoulder!?!?

your entire body is a conductor of electricity, so if the shock is that bad those pins in your shoulder would be the least of your worries. i'm in college at the moment residential and commercial electricity technology.

No, unless have both hands on something, which can build a circuit and the eletricity will zap right through you

I am an industrial electrician going on 8 years. As was mentioned earlier your entire body is a conductor so your gonna feel it either way. The most important thing to know is it is not the voltage that kills you it is the amps. I have been hit with everything from 120 volts AC to 480 volts 3 phase AC. And let me tell you 480 sux. Just watch your amperage that is the most important thing.
