After all the Batman/Spiderman/comic movie debates I thought I’d treat myself to a superhero with no known backstory: Hancock.
I was fairly excited to see it due to it’s initial “R” rating(which was been watered down to PG-13), it’s supposed “dark” tone, and the fact that no one knew anything about it…but overall it lacked the snap, pizzazz and pinache the trailers boasted of.
The first half of the movie dragged – VERY – slowly. I kept waiting for some of this so-called dark tone but it felt like a light, basic live action Disney movie with light profanity peppered throughout.
The second half picked up a bit but had a constant interrupted flow, almost like the director wasn’t exactly sure what to include so he tossed it all in there. Also the latest trailer kinda gives away the 2nd half.
Overall the crowd loved it and while leaving I heard a lot of “That was so funny! Man that was AWESOME! Reminded me of Dragonball Z!”
I don’t know how many hardcore comic fans it’ll please but it’s a decent matinee flick for the 4th of July weekend – not sure if it’ll be Big Willys 12th movie to gross over 100 million though.
Curious to see what others(esp. comic nerds) think before the spoilers come pouring in...
