Get some chalk. Blanket their area with it. Then draw a line away from your house. They won't be able to come back.

I've heard bleach works. In a related story W-40 will wreck (insta-dead) a wasp, maybe try that.

In the southeast U.S. we get fire ants, and these nasty little bastards are agressive and poisonous. We always used huge amounts of ant killer and this special type of powder made to kill insects (dont know the type of it). Anyway, if you want to try it, I also heard gasoline works really well and will kill them almost instantly.

I've heard a few people say gasoline or a mixture of kerosene and dishsoap. Its really dry where I am right now, I'm a bit weary of pouring accelerants around. Also, this is very near my garden and trees.

A few years ago we had a fire near my house and it smoldered underground for weeks. I've been afraid to try gas and stuff because of that. I guess I'm running out of options, I may have to try it soon.

Because I have established fruit trees that I've put a fair bit of time and money into. An ant colony can destroy trees if they decide to make a nest there.

Seriously though, put on some rubber boots and duct tape the seams to your jeans, dig up the nest and toss the pesticide down into it after torching the nest with gasoline.
