I'm using avast.

It works pretty well, and it's free. I also use other freeware programs for spyware/adware.

If you haven't checked out the free applications thread, it's worth it:

I have Norton as well and my computer's been acting up since last night, so just out of curiosity, what's wrong with your computer?

For me, something called Antivirus Xpro 2008 or something like that all of a sudden installed intself and is telling me my computer's infected like crazy and I need to register for it to clear. My screen saver disappeared and all of my desktop icons disappeared and the only way I can access them is by bringing up the task window. I've tried uninstalling the new Antivirus thing but it won't listen to me.

I've got Norton running a full system scan now but on the surface it doesn't seem like anything's wrong but clearly something is.

I'm on my laptop now and it works fine but my desktop is seriously under fire.

+1. I only put it in about 2 weeks ago after I offloaded AVG for being a resource hog, but I like it so far. If it turns out to be garbage I will head to bit defender.

I used this thread to change from Norton to AVG/SpyBot/Zone Alarm/CCleaner...is AVG no good then?

I wouldn't say it's no good. There are just better applications out there to use.

I have Norton Corporate (free) and it works great. It's much less evasive and constricting and catches pretty much everything. Norton personal is cumbersome and has a lot of holes.

I've heard good things about NOD32 if you don't want to shell out for Norton Corporate.
