I'm wondering how Airline miles work. Is 1 mile = 1 mile towards your destination? Does it cost 3000 miles to get a free flight across the US?

Who here saves airline miles? How easy is it to cash out?

I'm wondering because my bank is offering airline miles for having a checking account and i wanted to know if it's worth it.

With NWA, it's 25,000 miles for a free round-trip flight in the continental US. Most of my airline miles are from bitching to NWA about delays or service. Just got 4,000 miles because of a 45 minute delay caused by a broken door.
