2 weeks on, 2 weeks off work or normal work for family?

A friend of mine asked me my advice on this situation.

His live in gf is 7 months pregnant. He can go away and work 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off at a mine site for 2.5 x current pay he gets from working 9 to 5 style job.

What would you do?
Why?
When? *as in when the kid is just born, between 1-5, 5 to 10 etc.

Very soon he will want to do the 2 away.

If he's got family to help the GF while he's gone, take the money.

A friend of mine is a 2nd mate on an oil rig and he works the schedule right now.

He loves it but he also doesn't have a family yet. How much is he making now. Whether or not he takes it depends on how comfortable he's living right now.

After the child is born not taking the extra money may not be an option.
