Thank You Herd Dean!!!!!

Reading the PbP, it sounds as if Herb Dean is one of the few refs who has decided to adhere to the rules.

Marquadt got a point deducted for nailing the dudes nuts and also was warned about a punch to the back of the head. After watching all the illegal strikes that were allowed in the Pulver fight... this is a welcome change. Fighters are required to be under control. No matter if they are intentional or not. Fighters are supposed to adhere to the rules. It doesn't matter if the fighter is doing it because he is sloppy, out of control or throwing a million strikes.

Thank You Herb Dean!

Herb Dean was brilliant in that fight. Mainly forcing Thales to take time after the knee. Although he made a messed up call and costed Marquardt the fight. HE still leveled it out with the knee call.

It was not an illegal shot to the nuts as the TS states. It was a knee to the head of a downed oppenent. Herb was very good this fight, he gave Leites time ti recover and made sure he used most the time. The second point dedeuction was kind of iffy but he did a very good job this fight

I'm reading PbP. I assumed it was a knee to the nuts. My mistake. Same feeling towards Herb Dean though.

Hopefully Herb Dean will up his game. The sport lost John and nobody has stepped in as the top notch ref. Though Big John wasn't perfect either. Didn't BJ allow Trigg hammer Hughes nuts in a fight?

Doesn't seem like it, seems like he cost Nate the fight for a bad back of the head call.

I'll wait to judge when I see it first hand.

I can't remember the last time I saw a ref penalize a fighter for a mistaken illegal strike. Just the opposite... refs allowing illegal strikes to occur all the time.

If you turn your head when a punch is coming, it should not be a foul on the guy throwing the punch, you should get a warning and then be deducted a point for turning your head. A deliberate punch the groin, or back of the head is a foul. If you turn your head, that's on you. Just like when a boxer pulls his a guys head down, which causes a blow to land low. Both fighters' responsibility should be taken into account, not just the guy throwing the punch.

Herb Dean was a great ref in this fight, following the rules by the book.
