Gracies in UFC?

Does anyone know why other than the fight with Matt Hughes a few years back there are no Gracies fighting in the UFC?

Um...because they get more money fighting elsewhere?

Roger Gracie is just about the only Gracie active in MMA these days that might be able to hang with the current competition in the UFC. Royce is one-dimensional, Royler and Rickson are too old, Ryan is dead, Renzo is semi-retired and affiliated with the IFL anyways, and Rorions sons are too young still, but might become competitors later.

And then you have to factor in that the japanese orgs pay a premium just for the name Gracie - regardless of the first name, while in the US basically just Royce could command equivalent salaries.

I do want Roger in the UFC flying the flag for the clan, but right now the closest thing we have to a Gracie in the UFC is Ricardo Almeida, a long-time student who is basically an honorary member of the clan

The sport moved past most of the gracie clan. Would still love to see Roger in the mix of things, a little small for a HW but still...

And none of them(apart from Roger) are at the level of MMA skill and name recognition where they would make any waves in UFC, and all of them would command higher salaries in Japan right now just on account of their names. Don't get me wrong, they can fight, but I haven't heard of any of them really shining in MMA recently with the sole exception of Roger.

It's worth the effort for a japanese promoter to fork over hundreds of thousands of dollars for a Gracie, ANY Gracie, but in the US nobody's going to tune in just for that last name. The US audience needs more.

I´d LOVE to see more Gracies in the UFC but they don't seem to be all that interested.

Why go into the UFC and fight? They already have a name and a solid martial art. At this point they can just open up dojo chains and make their money. As long as fighters are still learning and training under the Gracie way then they will always be a name even if one of the family doesn't fight.
