Dont you think he had a bad night though? he landed some decent inside kicks on Hughes and wasnt beat any worse than alot of Hughe's victims were prior to that. He beat up GSP in 4 min by armbar in their first fight.
Royce never had the opportnity to use his very good guard on Hughes from the moment they hit the ground. Yes, Hughes had too easy of a time down there but keep in mind that Royce had to try and speed things up. He couldnt get defensive and stay that way like he did against Dan Severn or Ken Shamrock. Keep in mind that Hughes had Carlos Newton down easily time and time again in their fight. He also dominated Sherkinto oblivion. And those are guys who customized them selves to the rules of modern MMA.
BJ Penn just anihilated Sherk. Sherk is a very good fighter. But if Sherk was from the early-90's and had that performance everyone would be saying how he isnt a good fighter and doesnt belong in the UFC anymore.
Gracie vs. Hughes to me looked like a match that came down to "making the first mistake". And Gracie made the first mistake.
