Royce Gracie's Next Opponent

I really enjoy watching any royce gracie fight and its coming up to that time of the year when he has his annual fight.

So who would u like to see him fight this year.

My favourite would be someone like Hong Man Choi under MMA rules. Or perhaps Yamma could entice him with an old skool matchup like v Oleg Taktarov. Even tho Kerr is no longer 20% the man he was , I would still like to see Royce v Kerr as this would have been great in 98.

I guess the options fall in two categories, an old skool match up V someone like Taktarov, Frye or Ken Shamrock.

or a fight with someone like Choi.

I doubt we'll ever see a rematch with Hughes although Royce must think about that all the time

George St. Pierre.....

Honestly, I don't like freakshows. I certainly don't like seeing an esteemed fighter like Royce in them although his fight with Akebono was amusing.

Royce had quite a mystique built around him. I would like to see how he does against modern MMA greats. The concept of the Hughes fight was great. Legend vs. Champion.

i dont think this Legend vs. Champion thing can work anymore because every legend short of randy couture is so far past his prime he probably loses his fight and makes people question if he could compete in modern mma. Let legends be legends. personally,i hope people dont ruin the reputation of the man that popularized mma in america.

What's more damaging to a fighter's reptutation? Fighting serious competition or fighting in side shows?

Does anyone really want to see Royce fight Hong Man Choi?

I feel that he should either hang it up and become a trainer or have a few high profile novelty fights against modern greats if he really wants to compete.

I know he's past his prime but I doubt Royce could do any better against GSP now as he could when he fought in 1993. I think the Hughes fight was creative. A catch weight match between a modern champ and a legend. Unfortunately Royce got destroyed so the novelty may have worn off. It may be hard for the UFC to market an exciting Royce Gracie match now.

It's up to Royce if he wants to compete. I just don't see fighting freaks and cans as worth anyone's time. If he does well against fighters like GSP, Hughes and Anderson Silva the fights would be compliments to his legacy.

Well evidently K1 Heroes made that fight in 2005 but Choi pulled out to be replaced with Tokoro so others apart from me wanted it

The choi fight is a worthy one. A world class K1 striker V a pure ju jitsu stylist
.
Royce has done a great job preserving his reputation apart from the Matt Hughes fight which was a utter humiliation.

Royce has hardly been fighting cans or freaks. Name one example. Akebono doesnt suffice as he was a sumo master and the size difference made it interesting. It again added to Royce's legacy.
Your deluded if you think at this stage a fight against GSP, or Anderson Silva makes sense for anyone. He doesnt need those fights to compliment his legacy. Silva is a guy he would have beaten back in 2001-2003 when both were in Pride. Right now Anderson is too young and fast and would knock Royce out. Both parties know that and it does credit to their honour that they wouldnt consider making such a match. It would be like Larry Holmes v a Parkinsons ridden Muhammed Ali.

Equally GSP always credits Royce in interviews and I think a rematch with Hughes is more likely than a Royce-GSP battle as again, I think GSP wouldnt want to beat on his hero and Royce knows he is too old for that matchup. I actually think Royce of 1993 would have beaten Hughes at any point in his career.
