-The first round of the OWGP has just finished in Japan, the event finished without many surprises. Yoshida, Minotauro, Cro Cop, Fujita, Barnett, Hunt and Werdum now are joined to Emelianenko Fedor, who got a bye in the second round of the GP, July, 2nd. Check below the results.
- Roman Zentsov opened the event facing Gilbert Yvel and after dominating the entire bout, the russian won by KO in the 1º round.
- After some trouble to find his game in the 1º round against Alistair Overeem, Fabricio Werdum reversed the game and used his jiujitsu, submiting his opponent with a kimura in the 2º round.
- Tsuyoshi Kohsaka showed his heart in the third fight of the night when facing Mark Hunt. The neozeland punished the Japanese fighter along the entire fight with punches, kicks and knees causing a major bleading in Hidehiko Yoshida's student. The bout lasted to 2º round, when the referee stopped the fight, announcing Hunt as the winner. After it, Kohsaka announced his retirement.
- Alexander Emelianenko dominated the first round of his bout against Josh Barnett. But he gassed in the 2ºround and the American took advantage of it to takedown Fedor's brother and submit with an armlock from the sidemount.
- The Kazuyuki Fujita's return to Pride were more complicated than the expected. JAmes Thompson was giving trouble to the japanese in the fight before he gassed, as Fujita couldn't take him down and was in the bad end of the exchange. Until Fujita finally scores a right hook right in the spot, that made the English dazed, becoming the main target for a serie of punches till he fell KO'ed in the 1º round.
- Mirko Cro Cop gave no chances to the opponent. The Croatian faced Ikuhisa Minowa and easilly won the bout by referee stoppage, after several punches in the first round.
- Rodrigo Minotauro also didn't give any chance to Zuluzinho. The BTT's fighter went for the Zulu's legs, who defended, but soon lost position and got reversed. From the sidemount, Minotauro gave good shots, till he mounted and finished with a perfect armlock within 2 minutes of the first round.
- In a short fight, Hidehiko Yoshida closed the event taking down Yousuke Nishijima, going for the mount and submiting the pro boxer with a triangle.
