Nick Diaz vs. Scott Smith

So Diaz is coming off a domination of Frank Shamrock and Smith is coming off a great comeback victory against Benji Radach. Who do you think takes this?

For me I give Diaz props for using his pitter-patter punching style to great effect. He might get slammed occasionally for not having one-punch KO power, but his style can wear out opponents who try to match Diaz punch for punch. This is what I think will happen with Smith. Smith, on the other hand, is never knocked for lack of power and for good reason. He's made a name for himself as a KO artist, but his recklessness and go for broke style will hurt him in this fight. If Smith tries to load up a punch everytime Diaz throws a combination then he's going to tire out in a hurry.

The only bad part is that if Diaz does get caught by Smith he might get put down. Diaz is tough as nails, but one good punch from Smith is enough to end any fighters night (ask Benji). However since Diaz has only been finished twice (once early on in his career and once due to cuts in the first round of a title fight) I'm thinking Diaz will be ok. His defense has improved and he uses his reach a lot more effectively now.

I really don't think this fight will hit the mat because I know Smith won't want to take the fight there and I don't think Diaz has the power to get Smith to the ground.

What about you guys?

Scott smith is the most overrated fighter today. Seriously the guy lost to Ed herman.

i like smith, but i dont see him having anything for diaz, i see smith getting picked apart on his feet leading to a tapout early in the second by diaz.

So did David Loiseau and Joe Doerkson... Ed Herman ain't top tier but he ain't garbage to be talking about him like that.

Scott Smith is not overrated, no one thinks he's amazing or anything. What I don't understand is why they continue having Diaz fight at 180 instead of 170 so it's at least somewhat relevant.
