I just saw Red Belt and Never Back Down for the first time.
Red Belt, the movie as a whole wasn't very good, although the message it send was at least interesting and perhaps even inspiring for some. Just the movie-making aspect of it could have been much better.
Never Back Down, on the other hand, had absolutely nothing to offer me. Unless you're into fast paced action and Fast and the Furious style camera work, which is the only thing that can save this movie for some people from being a complete failure, it won't work for you. I know this is not the type of movie you go to if you're looking for a well written s.cript, good acting and directing, convincing plot etc., but these things were so atrociously bad, that I really considered turning it off quite a few times while watching. The dialog seemed like it was written by teenagers and you know it's not a good sign when you cringe with nearly every dialog for its cheesiness. The action and the fight scenes are quite well done, but only if you can accept the fact that this movies does not represent MMA in the slightest. It's trying to, but it sends the wrong message to people. Portraying MMA yet again as some kind of illegal fightclub teenage fad. All in all, it's one of the worst movies I've seen this year.
