My thoughts on who gets to replace injured fighters in the finals

There is a lot of discussion on Misakis GP win. After all he did lose in the semifinals, so why would he be allowed to fight in the finals?

Initially I shared the confusion of my fellow MMA fans.

BUT then I thought about this some more.

The semifinal is the second round in the tournament, so each fighter in the semifinal bout already has one tournament win. The loser of the semifinal is 1-1.

The fighters in the replacement bout are either losers of their first round GP match, or weren't in the GP initially, right? Correct me if I'm wrong.

So the winner of the replacement bout is also 1-1 in the tournament or wasn't initially invited in the first place.

So I think that the semifinal loser (who lost to a fighter who is 2-0 in the tournament) would have the same record in the tournament (or had more fights with an equal amount of wins, if the replacement bout winners hadn't been invited) as the said winner of the replacement fight.

So I think that it makes sense to give the loser of the Semifinal a right to fight in the finals.

End of my attempt at a logical journey into the maze that is PRIDE matchmaking.

Your thoughts?

Really Mousasi should have got to dvance in to the final, as long as he was not injured himself as that fight ws announced as the reserve fight.

However we don't know wht was happening behind the scenes, for all we know Misaki may have been the only participant fit to fight in the final.

I personally believe that the fighters that lost should get a chance before someone like Mousasi, whom was eliminated earlier in the tournament.

Which summs up my post in one sentence.

I feel the same way

The only logic to it is DSE wanted a Japanese guy in the final.

So why bother having the alternate fight.

So you have someone as a backup? It doesn't take a genius to understand, if someone cannot take the place of the injured fighters... the Reserve Match decides who gets the chance to fight.
