The lost 185 lbs division

Not only we have to worry about UFC vs Pride, but even within the organization it's all gone to hell!

UFC

Franklin: ever so dominant among all MWs but many sherdoggers don't give him much cred due to the opponents he's beaten... then he had to be destroyed by Anderson.

Anderson: newly crowned UFC heavyweight champion... but he still have his critics because he gets submitted by 2 185 lbs "pride" fighters. (now there is this BS that Anderson, the failed "pride" fighter who becomes the champ in the UFC)

Swick: He is on a roll in the UFC, and is line for a title shot, but of course since his only loss is to Leben, and apparently Leben sucks (not coming from me, but like 90% of people from sherdog)

Pride

Filho: he's like what now? 13-0 or 14-0??? I lost track. Point is, his unblemished record, but seems to be injured after his tourney fights. Does this guy deserve a title shot? I mean he is of course very dominant, but seems to fall short when a final is involved!

Misaki: goes to war with Dan in a non title bout and loses. Then beats the alleged champion in the tourney! Then loses to Filho in the semis... then wins in the finals??? WTF?

Dan: very impressive fighter in the Pride MW division, then goes to 185 lbs and falls short. Let's see, he lost to Misake but he's still the champ. So now, I'm assuming that he fights Misaki for the real title now right?

Kang: Unfortunately his winning streak has be thwarted but is he still a contender? His split decision from Misaki is still argueable, but a loss is a loss right? Where does he stand? Does he get a rematch against Misaki? or should he fight Filho after all because he won his semi final bout?

you know what? We should just have Matt Lindland come in and beat everybody... but hopefully he won't get tapped out twice in one night, self KO himself or in 22 seconds.

If only Fedor could drop to 185s lbs...

In a perfect world, we would have a 16-man tournament stretched over 4 cards.

Matt Lindland, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Melvin Manhoef, Ivan Salaverry. Anderson Silva, Rich Franklin, Nathan Marquardt, Mike Swick, David Loiseau, Paulo Filho, Kazuo Misaki, Dan Henderson, Denis Kang, Akihiro Gono, Jason Miller, & Jeremy Horn.

Since it is a not-so-perfect world, I would at least want to see:

Misaki/Henderson 3 fight the winner of Filho/Kang.

The UFC gets Lindland, and we get Silva/Lindland fight the winner of Franklin/Marquardt.

At least then we would be down to 2 possible "best fighters in the world". Oh yeah, then there is Akiyama... Ah, this division is just too stacked.

HAHAHA. My thoughts exactly. The MW div of the world is kinda in a limbo right now. I'd say Lindland needs another solid win against an A fighter to be top 1 in the div.

Misaki won 5 fights to start off his professional career. Since then, he has never won more then 3 fights in a row.

He has beaten a less then determined Dan Henderson (who basically admitted on Beatdown that he didn't want to be in the tournament). Then he barely beats an injured Denis Kang.

Misaki is a solid fighter, and I have him ranked #2 in Pride right now. However, he will probably never be ranked that high again. His luck will soon run out.

that makes a lot of sense. And I totally forgot about Marquardt, he's been winning but constantly under the radar!

Marquardt has 2 wins over Misaki in Pancrase. The first one was kind of like Coleman/Rua with a broken arm. The second fight, Marquardt won a decision.

He is constantly being underrated by fight fans. I have followed his career since 2000 pretty extensively. He is the real deal. Maybe not the best in the world, but Top 10 and possibly Top 5.

Ryo Chonan should be top 16! Replace him with The Crow.
By the time it happens, Gegard Mousasi should also be there.

Things are a bit complicated. So what does that set up Hendo vs Misaki 3 on NYE, not bad. And than I want to see the title defended in Feb. That should clear things up.

i would rather put joe doerkson or david terrell in the tourny, both of them would crush chonan.
