Hello I just have a question. I am doing a Cultural Analysis about Croatia for a local Canadian Company, and have a simple quetsion. I am Croatian and I know that Croatia Declared independence in 1991. I know the war ended in 1995 and that Croatia was made a member of the UN in 1995. Although my question is, which one of these years would be the actual year that Croatia became a soveriegn nation??? Were they considered a soveriegn nation right when they declared independence or were they considered soveriegn after the civil war and membership into the UN??? I know this is a MMA site but I'm sure someone here actually lives in Croatia and could answer this off the top of there head. Please if you can list a source as well, because I need it for proof. Thank you

I think that a country becoems independent when after they have declared independence and has been recongized by X number of foreign states. And in the case of Croatia there were a few countries (like Italy and Austria) recongizing the statehood pretty straight away

Well do some searching man. You have everything on wikipedia, but if u really want, Croatia became an independent nation on June 25, 1991. No January 15, 1992.
