It's a Japanese 5 yen coin.

The front side says '5 yen'
the flip side says 'Japan' and the date of issue.

worth next to nothing.

I'm not sure about Japanese coins, but Chinese coins with a hole in the middle rare very old, and go back to when you would hold coins in a string. That would be worth some change.
