I've been saying Shogun's overrated for SEVERAL years now. His striking is sloppy, his defense is weak, and he doesn't get away with it as well as the old wandy did because he doesn't have the speed, power, or aggression that Wandy does (new wandy is a MUCH better fighter since he's been in the UFC than he was in Pride).

His wrestling is sub-par- both his takedowns and takedown defense. You put him against a solid wrestler, and he'll get taken down all day. His takedowns are suspect- at best.

His strong points are his muay thai clinch, his GnP, and his BJJ.

Is shogun talented? Yes. Does he have potential to be a top fighter in the ufc? Yes.

But his training is all wrong- it's obvious that much of his technique is translated from Gi BJJ and judo to MMA, and that just doesn't cut it anymore. MMA groundgame and wrestling is now its own science.

His striking needs to be completely reworked. His clinch game is excellent, but his boxing needs serious work, and his kicks are nothing special.

Shogun is a great fighter, but chuteboxe is dated. Even Wandy knows it, that's why he left. Once upon a time it was revolutionary, being one of the first schools to incorporate the BJJ/Muay Thai combination that was so successful in early 2000s, but we're way past that now.

Forrest on the other hand is sluggish, but his technique for MMA is ahead of shogun. He's tougher than shogun, and has better cardio (by far) than shogun. ANd another main factor- he's MASSIVE compared to shogun.

Shogun's loss is a result of chuteboxe's refusal to update their training and their technique. Which is a shame, because shogun is a very solid BJJ blackbelt, with a ton of experience and is still very young.
Shogun won the most stacked LHW tournament in history (2005 GP) and because of this, gets the respect he does from the knowledgable fans. How can someone be "overrated" when they beat Rampage, LilNog, Overeem and Arona in the span of 6 months?

Say what you will about what's happened since his injury during the Coleman fight, but Shogun was the best LHW fighter in the world in 2005. Let's hope he can regain his form and get back to kicking a$$.

Sorry but u are wrong:

When u see a bunch of arrogant, excuse making people who act like so and so are Gods and unbeatable and the greatest thing to ever lace up a pair of gloves and just go on and on about every little thing they do and then make every excuse in the world to discredit another fighter, that to me is bullshit.

I dont like Shogun or Chuck Liddell or Fedor.

sometimes I THINK people dont know shit about MMA so they follow who everybody else does and they follow who THE BEST people are. That is called being a fuckin frontrunning bandwagon fan and that drives me insane.

I like fighters that I feel connected to and fighters who have a story that I can connect and relate to.

Tito, Forrest, Frank Mir, BJ, etc etc I follow religiously. I will also follow the guys i like whether or not they lose 40 fights in a row. Lets see some of these people on here when these guys they worship start losing and they run out of excuses.

Who the fuck are you trying to impress?? You hate the most popular and talented guys because their fans like them too much for your taste. Hahaha somebody needs a psychiatrist and some good medication good luck buddy. Who the fuck are you to say who is a true fan of a guy or not?? I couldn't stand Fedor because he always kicked the shit out of Nog but after a while you come to appreciate mma talent and he's one of my favorites. I don't like a fighter on pure personality I like what he displays in a ring or cage. His personality helps but fuck it I care more about his talent. That's what mma is about. Oh I get it, a converted WWE fan, look at his av, and I'm not even talking about Lesnar.

This is a smart thing to do. Claim that every fighter who is winning is overrated. Then when they lose, and 99.9% of fighters WILL lose eventually, you can come back years later and claim that you've been saying for YEARS that they've been overrated.

Completely retarded. The only time this wouldn't work was if you called Rocky Marciano overrated. "OMG Gomi and Hughes were overrated. Been saying that for YEARS!" What were you saying when they beat like 10 guys in a row?

Look dumbass, you said his jack off fans make it impossible to like him. How is that saying that you like him? You said the opposite, you said you don't like him because of his fans which is pure bitch. That's just lame and moronic.

You know, according to UFC advertising, Shogun was the number one light heavyweight in the world prior to losing to Forest.
