I just find it interesting to listen to all the pre-fight speeches and see what you ca determine about that fighters mindset going in. Maybe something, maybe nothing but you can def read between the lines occasionally when a fighter say "I'm going to push the pace" "I'm going to show him I came to fight" rather than saying I'm going to win. Maybe that's just me...
We are definitely being given vague things that we can interpret every which way.
I'm eager for the fight so we can compare the things said and the actual results.

I don't remember Penn talking like this either.

What does it mean?
a. I'm super-motivated, never been in better shape, all will behold my awesome wrath!
b. I'm not confident and have some doubts, I'm going to put up a false front to try to convince my opponent and myself that I can destroy him.
c. I'm earning a % of ppv sales this time, I better keep poking at the media/fans/opponent to keep interest as high as possible.

After the fight we'll have a better idea (maybe).

Anyone who ever trained with BJ will tell u how good his wrestling is or maybe just ask accomplished wrestlers (in their prime) like Jens or Gomi who BJ arguably outwrestled how good BJ's wrestling is! An BJ didn't take GSP down - he was pretty damn close an tht is NOT the same Penn as the the May 24th BJ Penn.

U make a very interesting point tho abt the takedowns, one of the things BJ has on Sherk is not only better technical striking and power imo but also REACH an although I don't see BJ double-legging Sherk right out the gate I do see him perhaps throwin a combination an then scoring a takedown on Sherk. Also do u see Sherk scorin many dbl legs on BJ? Sherk never comes forward and attacks on his feet he likes to quickly counter an then takedown.

Tht will be hard with the reach, power and handspeed and just genral striking ability of BJ. If he shoots in Blindly or wildly like he did a few times against Florian it cld end real badly for him in a scramble. Sherks sure fire way of takin BJ down is to get him up against the fence- he's gotta strike with BJ and get past that reach to do tht imo which I dn't think will be easy by any means.

He'll probably have the same tactic as wat he did agaisnt Diaz an make it a boring ass fight despite wat he says in his interview. move or shld i say run (he's fighting BJ) defend counter, takedown zzzzzzzz. Wnt work this time tho Im afraid Sherk - ur outgunned plain and simple.

Twice. Draw with Uno and Decision Loss to Pulver.

I don't know how Penn fans can be so confident that "we are going to see a different BJ." He has done the whole "I'm training harder for this fight.." blah blah "you are going to see a new BJ Penn" blah blah. Maybe we will, maybe we won't, but I don't trust BJ to tell me he's going to be in better shape. I have to see it on the 24th before I believe it.

How? Before the 2nd fight with Hughes he actually said he was training less. Basically just rolling and sparring.

Since then he's looked great and beat the hell out of both fighters he's faced. One a respected veteran and the other a top 10 LW.

Yeah, every thing about BJ is underrated. He excels at auto transmission work, he bakes a mean cake, he's about the best librarian in Hawaii. I can imagine some of you guys would brush your teeth every night with a BJ Penn toothbrush is they made one. He's a good athlete, but I'm not gonna lick his balls because of that.

I don't know about cake but I do hear he bakes a mean batch of brownies...

Sounds like you could use one about now.

That's a dumb statement. Anyone can get cut at the very least. What if Sherk's glove slices Penn's eyelid like Vitor on Randy?

Fail.

lol good point.

I would say that Sherk WON'T beat BJ.

But sherk does have a chance. If BJ is not prepared to go 5 rounds, then sherk will win.

I'm hoping that it will only take 2 or 3 rounds for BJ to put sherk away.
